Attention ObamaCare dead pool players: Bungler Kathleen Sebelius to resign. Gone!

Obama’s War on Women: Another woman to be named to oversee bungled ObamaCare.

Internet

News tonight from the Obama Administration the president will accept the resignation of Health and Human Services Secretary, Kathleen Sebelius. From USA Today,

Obama accepted the resignation this week and intends to announce that he will nominate his Office of Management and Budget Director Sylvia Mathews Burwell to replace Sebelius.

He will make the formal announcement at 11 a.m. on Friday at the White House, according to officials, who asked not to be identified so as not to preempt the president.

While USA Today attempted to ascribe recent gaffs to Sebelius’s ouster, the reality is the entire ObamaCare overhaul was ill advised, one sided and horribly orchestrated by everyone in the Obama Administration–probably because–oh, I don’t know–because the bill was horrible for the American people or something.

But hey, sucker, we have a song to send you off. I just wish you would take ObamaCare with it.

Guilty plea in blockbuster case of Mexican mogul illegally funneling campaign contributions to Filner, other Democrat US candidates

Case fuels concerns of illegal foreign interference in San Diego and US elections. Funneled money through Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

A San Diego businessman has pleaded guilty to funneling foreign campaign funds to local candidates including disgraced Mayor Bob Filner in a deal that could land him eight years in prison when he’s sentenced in November.

The Union Tribune reports La Jolla luxury car dealer Marc Chase has reached a deal with prosecutors for funneling a reported half million dollars to US candidates,  including then-Congressman Filner and Congressman Juan Vargas and San Diego area District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis, on behalf of Mexican mogul Jose Susumo Azano Matsura, He also gave large donations to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC),

Marc Chase entered guilty pleas to charges of conspiracy, making campaign contributions by a foreign national and serving as a conduit for illegal contributions…[to support] the 2012 mayoral campaigns of Bob Filner and [District Attorney] Bonnie Dumanis and the congressional campaign of [Congressman] Juan Vargas ][all Democrats] court documents and other records show.

In January, “an assistant U.S. Attorney stated in open court that former San Diego mayor Bob Filner met Mexican millionaire Jose Susumo Azano Matsura and offered to hold up city development because the millionaire wanted to see San Diego turn into the next Miami.” The prosecutor also claimed, “[Filner] told [Matsura] that he did not have jurisdiction over the bay front but that he may be able to help the foreign national by holding up development on the Navy-Broadway Complex in downtown San Diego, so the foreign national could be put in a position to obtain control of that lease.”

The case exploded in January when it was revealed in court that in 2012 former Congressman and disgraced Mayor Bob Filner offered to delay a huge development to give Matsura an advantage in the race for the lease,

The case has highlighted the concerns of foreign interference in San Diego’s elections from south of the border. In the latest mayoral election, campaign signs for candidate David Alvarez appeared in Tijuana. The signs called on Tijuana residents to “Hayamos historia” (Let’s make history) invoking one of Alvarez’s messages of his campaign. According to the Union Tribune, the campaign was paid for by, “‘Amigos de David Alvarez,” No such PAC exists in San Diego County. Alvarez’s campaign denied having anything to do with the signs. Thirty two hundred expatriates claim San Diego as their home but have their ballots sent to another country.

Bitter San Diego woman conducts crazed war against couple who outbid her on house; accused of soliciting rape.

Authorities say woman sicced rapists, missionaries and embarrassing mail to owners of home.

Kathy Rowe says it was a prank that got out of hand. Embittered because she lost out on a desirable Carmel Valley home, prosecutors say she set out to get the female homeowner raped.

The Union Tribune reports Rowe fell afoul of the law when she posted a rape fantasy ad posing as the wife,

She posed as the wife in online adult entertainment ads titled “Carmel Valley Freak Show,” inviting strange men over to the couple’s home for sex and describing scenarios of a rape fantasy to those who responded. The wife’s photo and address were included in the postings.

“I love to be surprised and have a man just show up at my door and force his way in the door and on me, totally taking me while I say no,” Rowe wrote to one man who responded.

One man decided to follow up on the offer, but was thwarted once by a locked gate and a second time when the husband answered the door.

Rowe has been fighting the felony charges of solicitation of rape and sodomy since 2012.

Rowe, a San Diego County employee, wanted the home for her family, including her severely disabled daughter. She was also chosen as one of San Diego County’s Mother’s of the Year. Read more here.

Bill that would shut down San Diego’s Sea World whale show sent for “interim study.”

Animal rights extremists proposed bill to halt whale shows after release of anti Sea World movie “Blackfish”

In a hearing heavily attended by cheering animal rights protesters, the California Assembly’s Water, Parks black fishand Wildlife Committee has agreed to send Assembly bill 2140 for interim study after its sponsor admitted it “was a work in progress” and “wasn’t ready to move forward.”

Richard Bloom, D, Santa Monica, arranged for a hearing of AB 2140 after angry reaction at Sea World following the release of the documentary “Blackfish.” The movie claims to reveal abuse of Orcas in Sea World’s care and unsafe working conditions for trainers. Sea World has set up a website to defend itself against what it says are the movie’s untruths here.

Committee members and witnesses used the hearing to laud or harangue Sea World depending on their points of view.  Davis Democrat, Mariko Yamada, said she’d watched “Blackfish” twice and observed  none of the movie’s criticisms of Sea World had actually happened in San Diego under current California law.

Surfer and Huntington Beach Republican Travis Allen claimed Sea World, the San Diego Zoo and Safari Park  helped him appreciate wild life and that “helped me want to take care of animals.”

Former union boss turned San Diego legislator, Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez, discounted Sea World’s threats to leave town if the bill passed and, channeling her inner Occupy,  gave a speech about Sea World failing to pay its employees a “living wage” and pointed out its ownership by “a Wall Street private equity firm.”

The muffled cheers of protesters could be heard outside the hearing room when LA area Assemblyman Anthony Rendon said “if the movie is filled with inaccuracies, it doesn’t matter to me” because he didn’t agree with putting any animals in captivity.

A witness said the bill was written broadly animal rights activists could pummel Sea World with “an unending trail of litigation.”

Questions about specific language, ocean pens for the Orcas and safety issues apparently will be addressed in the interim study. Just who’s doing the studying isn’t known at the moment.

Democrat Bob Filner Unchained

Notorious former San Diego mayor freed from house arrest after three months fILNER grope

Bob Filner is once again unchained. On Sunday, the Democrat former mayor and congressman was allowed to remove the tracking device from his ankle and venture beyond the walls of his downtown San Diego condo. He was ‘lojacked’ for three months while under house arrest.

Filner pleaded guilty to sexually harassing,  battering and falsely imprisoning women. His “Filner headlock” became a running national joke. Twenty women came forward to accuse him of groping, licking or headlocking them in meetings after he became mayor. One attack occurred at a “Meet the Mayor” event.  Accusers include his communications director, city hall employees and members of the public.

The former mayor will remain on probation for three years. If he stays out of trouble, his felony battery conviction for headlocking a woman at a fundraiser will be reduced to a misdemeanor.

In addition to the home confinement Filner will have to serve three years of probation. At the end of that time, if he has complied with all the probation conditions, he will be allowed to have the felony false imprisonment sentence reduced to a misdemeanor and eventually expunged under the terms of the plea bargain.

Breitbart establishes official California beach head @BreitbartCA

After recent expansions into London and Texas, Breitbart News establishes beach head in California

Breitbart is here. The news source named for Andrew Breitbart, the California boy who shook up the “media Breitbart is Here postercomplex”, is officially establishing a California bureau. With this bureau, Breitbart’s expansion includes Texas, London, Washington, D.C., and it’s official offices in California.

From Kurt Bardella’s press release this morning,

“For years, California has been written-off by conservatives as too far past the point of return, but the truth is every single day there are stories worth telling about the successes of the conservative movement in California and the failures of the left-wing establishment,” said @BreitbartNewsExecutive Chairman Stephen K. Bannon.  “Breitbart California is about telling not just those stories, but showcasing the impact and influence the Golden State has in our culture, technology and economy.  From the growing libertarian movement at the heart of Silicon Valley to a Republican win at City Hall in San Diego, there is a fundamental shift taking shape and Breitbart News will be here to chronicle it.

Not everyone is excited like me.  Wired.com criticized the venture, including the advertising roll out which included some graphic images from the artist Sabo.

Breitbart California

“[T]he new ads don’t seem dangerous and new; instead they play on old sexist tropes,” complained reporter Lucy Westcott.

Wired, which fancies itself dangerous and new, though it’s been around for years,  also declared conservatism not edgy,

“[T]he controversial rollout of Breitbart’s California operation is another attempt to push the counterintuitive idea that being conservative is an act of rebellion.”

Maybe Lucy longs for being the counter culture like back in the old days. She apparently figures conservatives are such a mainstream in California and American culture,  such as Hollywood, the mainstream newspapers, TV, academia, network news.

The definition of news, of course, is that which is out of the ordinary. If conservatism were de rigueur, I wonder why she took the trouble to write a news post about them.

Welcome, Breitbart. Hope I can help.

Greenpeace demands windmill powered internet; targets Amazon* for failing to kiss ring

“[B]uilding an internet that runs on renewable sources of energy…”internet energy1

If you wanted to, you could supply your entire life shopping on the web without using even one gallon of gas in your car. You could go on any search engine right now and secure a house, car, Bible, medicine, fine work of art, pet, information, chemical formula, book, water, musical instrument, movie, vacation,  groceries, car parts, phones, clothes–practically anything–on the web.

It’s nearly impossible to calculate how many millions of productive hours have been saved because of shopping on the internet (although you might find that on the web, too). Hours spent in your car or on transit have been saved because instead of heading to a store you let your fingers do the driving or walking. Millions or billions of gallons of gas haven’t been burned and therefore have been saved because you didn’t hop in your car and go to the store!

You’d think the enviros would be doing back flips over this! Ah, success! But except for Al Gore “inventing” the internet (yes, he said it), the greens have had little to do with all the savings from this miraculous time saving invention. And that’s no fun unless you’re the one dictating terms.  If you want to be on the greens’ good side, you’d better strive for their latest made-up goal. Or else.

The group with the word peace in their name has declared war on tech companies for using too many fossil fuels to power their servers. The enviros have now thrown down: do it our way or we’ll issue a “report” and ruin you.

The report has been now been issued. Late last week Clicking Green: How Companies are Creating the Green Internet was released. Amazon Web Services and Twitter were given bad grades for tsk, tsk, using too many fossil fuels to run their servers. Or at least that’s would they like you to believe. In fact, Amazon was given the grade of F* for not kissing the ring of the green mafia,

Amazon Web Services (AWS), which provides the infrastructure for a significant part of the internet, remains among the dirtiest and least transparent companies in the sector, far behind its major competitors, with zero reporting of its energy or environmental footprint to any source or stakeholder. [emphasis mine]

Translation: Amazon didn’t bend over for a wallet biopsy so Greenpeace is greenmailing them.

Worse, Greenpeace actually accuses Amazon of –wait for it–saving money. Shaking its balled fist of righteousness toward the heavens, Greenpeace looks upward to The Cloud and demands an answer of the Goddess Gaia: ‘Why? Why?

Those companies, most notably Amazon Web Services, are choosing how to power their infrastructure based solely on lowest electricity prices, without consideration to the impact their growing electricity footprints have on human health or the environment. [emphasis mine]

Amazon has shopped for energy based on low prices. It won’t be long before enviros label Amazon the online analog of –gasp!–Walmart (see Satan)For the moment they’ll settle for calling Amazon dirty,

Other internet companies have refused to pay even lip  service to sustainability, and are simply buying dirty energy straight from the grid.

Greenpeace really does want the internet run by the weather: wind and sun. They’ve even let water out of the doghouse, now calling it a clean energy! This will come as a grand surprise to Northwest enviros who have Lumi sticked politicos who dare call hydro-power sustainable. Environmentalists, and the politicians who pant at their sides (see Democrats), contend because water runs through turbines and sometimes kill salmon (see green religious iconography including St. Salmon) it’s not really ‘green’ or sustainable. But now Greenpeace proclaims rain is now sustainable in the Pacific Northwest. This is really going to screw up their heads.

All of this sustainability talk is to stop Man Made Global Warming now known as Climate Change –the name change being required to hide their botched predictions about the end of the world that Global Cooling has caused,

We witness on a daily basis evidence that the foundation of our offline world, our planet, is out of balance as a result of climate change and other threats caused by our reliance on dirty sources of energy.

Amazon isn’t sufficiently listening to the Global Warmists and, as a result, Greenpeace calls them bitter clingers,

The scientific community is issuing warnings, increasingly dire in nature, that our continued reliance on the energy technologies of the past is putting our future in grave danger. We need to shift at internet-like speed to a world powered by renewable sources of energy, disrupting the status quo to which electric utilities and other fossil fuel providers are desperately clinging.

Internet frackIn its report, Greenpeace touts companies that have said they’ll someday run 100% of their servers on wind and solar power. Look for higher prices from Apple, Box, Facebook, Google, Rackspace and Salesforce. Those companies have paid their green indulgences and now have been absolved of their possible sins against the climate. For now.

You may be wondering where fracking enters the fray. It doesn’t. Greenpeace measures the cost of every fossil fuel in terms of taking away investment in their beloved solar and wind technologies and demands the web giants not “frack the internet.”

While the increasing supply of natural gas due to fracking has helped to shut down a number of coal plants, shale gas [fracking] also diverts investment away from renewable energy. The GHG footprint of shale gas may be significantly greater than for conventional gas, with some life-cycle analyses showing shale gas to have a GHG  footprint that is higher than even coal, due to fugitive methane emissions that are leaked during gas extraction and transportation. [emphasis mine]

Fugitive emissions? File those under dirty energy, clingers, Walmart and now Amazon. Greenpeace has declared war.

Jeb Bush: Some illegal immigration is “an act of love”

“Yes, they broke the law, but it’s not a felony. It’s an act of commitment to your family.”

Jeb Bush
Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush said some illegal aliens who come to the US to work do so as an act of commitment to their families, indeed, as “an act of love” to keep them fed and together.

Jeb Bush made his “act of love” comments in an interview with Fox News’ Shannon Bream at a celebration at the George H.W. Bush Library over the weekend. They followed Mr. Bush’s admonitions of how the US should secure the border and crack down on people who overstay their visas.

The former Governor is married to a Mexican woman, Columba, whom he met while on a high school semester abroad program. They have three grown children.

The former governor is right, of course. Some people do come to this country to feed their families and many do not. In fact, some people come and stay to have families here in order to have American citizen babies. Jeb Bush should acknowledge those babies should be required to take their parents’ nationality. Drug tunnels in Tijuana, general lawbreaking, rock throwing and shooting at our border agents, human trafficking, and the Mexican Mafia’s trail of corpses are clearly not acts of love.

Americans feel betrayed when politicians expect them to support law breakers in exchange for their promises to do something about border security. After 9/11, these promises are especially hollow. Americans are expected to be nice but don’t expect us to be fools.

Here’s Mr. Bush’s comment (see video below):

The way I look at this is someone who comes to our country because they couldn’t come legally, they come to our country because their family’s dad who loves their children was worried that their children didn’t have food on the table, and they wanted to make sure their family was intact. And they crossed the border because they had no other means to work to be able to provide for their family.

Yes, they broke the law, but it’s not a felony. It’s kind of — it’s a, it’s an act of love. It’s an act of commitment to your family. I honestly think that that is a different kind of crime that should be, there should be a price paid, but it shouldn’t be — it shouldn’t rile people up that people are actually coming to this country to provide for their families. And the idea that we’re not going to fix this but with with comprehensive reform ends up trapping these people, when they could make a great contribution for their own their families but also for us.

Portland shop owner threatened by gays: she must “explain” her views on traditional marriage

“They want her to explain.”

farmer market1

HT to @WyleeCoyoteJim

Chauncy Childs’ store on Milwaukie Avenue in Westmoreland is everything the left claims to love. It’s a Farmer’s Market-like store that will feature no GMOs, no additives, raw milk, fresh produce–the whole granola bit–but, because of her old Facebook posts, the Perpetually Aggrieved Portland Professional Protesters believe she’s anti gay and have attacked.

The Portland shop keeper hasn’t even opened the grocery store yet and she’s getting blow-back from the far left gay activists for her traditional marriage comments on social media. The word has gone out–all the way to KGW TV– that the owner of The Moreland Farmer’s Pantry has put “anti gay” (read: pro traditional marriage) items on her Facebook page. And, as the reporter explains in the piece below, “they want her to explain.” “

According to KGW, she posted her belief that a private shop owner has the right to say no to demands farmer market gay2customers with which she disagrees–such as baking a cake for a gay wedding. And that apparently was enough to tick off a man by the name of Sean O’Riordan.

O’Riordan put together a YouTube video of Child’s Facebook posts she had posted under another name to forge a whispering campaign against the shop keeper. He circulated it throughout the community–and to KGW TV.

In the news story, O’Riordan wept saying his brother died of AIDS and was persecuted because he was gay. Apparently to him posting your opinion is now tantamount to persecution and inflicting AIDS.

You’ll see in the piece below that Child’s has already paid her indulgences to the gay community by giving to a gay suicide prevention charity. She says she hopes to “make some peace.”

Good luck with the cray gays, Chauncy.

Political reporter Chris Cillizza gets schooled—on parenting

leashChris Cillizza is a political reporter for the Washington Post and writes the popular column, “The Fix.” Today he veered off talking about live chats with politicos, retweeting slams on George W. Bush’s artistic abilities and Daily Show monologue favorites to venture into new territory: parenting.

He blurted out this on Twitter this morning.

I understand what he’s feeling. Putting a kid on a leash looks odd and borderline abusive. I’m sure that’s the point Cillizza was trying to make. Some people went with Cillizza’s premise and agreed readily, like this guy

And then people with knowledge of autistic children began to weigh in and school the political reporter:

As I always say Twitter is a free fire zone. You fire and people fire back. BOOM.

Fort Hood Active shooter response time is 15 MINUTES?

How Fort Hood’s response time stacks up to cities in the US.

fort hood

When Lt General Mark A. Milley revealed the response time of Military Police to the shooter at Fort Hood as 15-20 minute at a news conference last night ,  it was a sit-up-straight-mouth-agape-moment. I wrote about it here last night.

Fifteen MINUTES for an ACTIVE SHOOTER? Fifteen minutes to stop a man with a gun predating upon our finest and best trained warriors without anyone to stop him? Fifteen?

Fort Hood, Texas is BIG. It’s a military reservation of about 45,000 people on 335 square miles “deep in the heart of Texas.”  It’s a vast area for MP’s to cover which is just another reason why the trained soldiers who call Fort Hood their temporary home should be able to carry weapons.

Here’s how that 15-20  response time compares with other cities. When the times have a wide variance because police agencies lump high priority with low priority calls, I give you a range.

Houston Code 1’s (of which an active shooter surely would be one): 3.5 to 5.5 minutes.

Fort Worth:  5 to 7:55.

Atlanta: An average of 11 minutes and 11 seconds.

Denver: 11 minutes

Tucson: 10.11

Milwaukee, Wisconsin: 5:17 (for shootings)

The other salient fact is the average time a perpetrator stays in contact with a victim. The answer to that is about 75 seconds.

The old saw goes: when seconds count, the police are only minutes away. It’s not their fault. They have to react, prioritize and respond. Until they get there, you’re on your own. And so are our soldiers. It’s a travesty.

15 Minutes at Fort Hood

Commanding General confirms that’s how long it took for Military Police to get to scene of shooting

Another shooting at Fort Hood, Texas. 14 16 people were shot, three innocents killed and the shooter committed suicide. The killer reportedly carried a .45 caliber Smith and Wesson pistol. He was able to carry it on post, but no one else except MP’s had guns to shoot back. Unbelievable. Haven’t we learned anything after this and the Naval Shipyard shooting?

SW 45 pistol

Lt. General Mark A. Milley, who answered questions at a news conference tonight, said the MP’s response time was 15 minutes. In any city in an active shooter situation, a 15 minute response time would be considered horrible. Our soldiers deserve better.

A 15 minute response time meant there was nearly one death for every minute of delay. Would that have changed if soldiers were allowed to carry on post? Yes.

The general said the gunman began shooting in a building near medical facilities on post, got into a vehicle  and fired his weapon as he tried to get away. According to investigators, he then stopped again, started shooting, and that’s when MP’s engaged him. The gunman shot himself.

General Milley said the gunman, who was not identified at the news conference, was married with a family but suffered from psychiatric disorders, including depression and anxiety. He was being analyzed for possible Post Traumatic Stress but had not been officially diagnosed with PTS. He was on medication for depression and anxiety. He had been at Fort Hood only since February. He served for four months in Iraq in 2011 and was not wounded in battle but was said to have suffered some sort of head injury at some point in his military career.

Milley said he didn’t think soldiers should carry loaded weapons on post. I’m sure he believes he’s right, but two shootings on post prove him wrong.

Amid Fort Hood shooting, this from the left…about Andrew Breitbart?

It’s a non sequitur, but in the midst of the Fort Hood shooting the leftists just can’t seem to stop themselves.

Andrew Breitbart Rosenberg

And just who is M Jay Rosenberg? Oh, he’s an Obamabot, writer for HuffPo and Media Matters.

Here’s his bio,

“M.J. Rosenberg is Senior Foreign Policy Fellow at Media Matters Action Network. Previously, he worked on Capitol Hill for various Democratic members of the House and Senate for 15 years. He was also a Clinton political appointee at USAID. In the early 1980s, he was editor of AIPACs weekly newsletter Near East Report. From 1998-2009, he was director of policy at Israel Policy Forum.”

This is the left. Know who they are. This is war.
