Before You Hate On “Rich People,” Here’s Who Really Pays Taxes

I can think of dozens of times I trotted out the annual “Who Pays Taxes” numbers from the National Taxpayers Union on my talk show. So instead of losing the numbers into the ether, let’s take a look at them in living color.

Simply put, the top 1% of the income earners pay nearly 40% of all income taxes. The top 1%-5% pay nearly 60% of all income taxes. The top 10% pay nearly 80% of all income taxes.

So when there are tax cuts–which Donald Trump promises to make, encourage your ‘eat the rich’ friends to spare us the outrage over how the tax cuts disproportionately help the rich. They only “disproportionately” help as much as they disproportionately hurt.

Oregon Progressives Call for Bird Brained Outdoor Taxes That Will Absolutely Ruffle Some Feathers

For self described ‘progressives’, known here for their real impact on society as ‘Oppressives’, they just never have enough of your money.

They always believe they can spend your money better than you–for the good of the ‘collective’, you understand.

If they’re tough, punitive taxes, so much the better, to their way of thinking.

Enter the new taxes these Oppressives are calling for: Bird seed, hiking boots and binoculars.

Mike Strickland of Progressives Today captured the moment when this self satisfied looking chick from Oregon Wild proposed new taxes on all of the above without any note of irony.

Bicycling groups also called for a change in the constitution (!) in order to redefine bike paths as roads so they could get a share of the gas taxes.

In effect they do now through a manipulation of all the pots of money sought and used for Oregon transportation.

Instead of the back room deals using gas tax and other tax money for bike paths routed through DC, these guys want a clear path to get their hands on the money.

The one refreshing aspect of this is the recognition–which should be touted from the roof tops–that these people don’t pay for anything they require the rest of the motorists, hunters, etc. to pay for. Remember that. However, in order to salve their vestige of a shadow of a frisson of guilt for being free riders, they want everyone else to pay, too. So much for virtue.

Also, because they know they’ve been drafting on the taxpayers all these years, they want to pay a little to get a seat at the table so they get a lot more.

Poll: 55% Oregonians want Democrat Kitzhaber replaced; Richardson pulls to dead heat.

Without friendly media giving Kitzhaber the usual Democrat discount, Governor continues slide. kitzhabermediameltdownRichardson pulls within 2% in a poll with a +/- 3.95%

Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber is continuing his favorability slide with Oregon voters even within his own base, according to a new poll of registered, likely voters. The poll was commissioned by the Oregon Taxpayers Association and performed by public affairs firm Wentzel Strategies based in Ohio. The phone poll of 607 likely voters was taken between May 29-June 1. The poll showed the third term governor’s favorability has slid six points in the last month compared to an OPB poll taken last month.  While the sample group was smaller and skewed slightly older, perhaps from not including cell phone users, it contained some very encouraging news for Kitzhaber’s younger challenger Dennis Richardson. The poll indicated the Republican has pulled to within two points of Kitzhaber. When the margin for error is taken into consideration, Kitzhaber’s advantage is erased.  Among the eye opening revelations:

47.8% claim Oregon is going in the wrong direction

55% said Kitzhaber should be replaced.

56% said Kitzhaber was doing only a fair or poor job

Who are these people?

52% voted to give Kitzhaber his current third term.

47% identified themselves as liberal or moderate.

Taxpayers Association PAC Director Jason Williams said Kitzhaber has no one to blame but his own horrible job performance, including the Covered Oregon and education department debacles.

The spike of Kitzhaber negativity can be directly attributed to a recent string of bad news national in scope over Oregon’s performance, for what we are calling the 100 Days Media Meltdown. In the past 100 days, there have been seven colossal Oregon failures stories, with many of these headlines carrying a national perspective– 55% Oregon voters want him replaced!

I’ll be mining more info from this poll soon, but this poll should be a real Kitzhaber wake up call. Problem is, he has such a string of media reported leadership disasters, I wonder if he can do anything to reverse the perception of his disasters.

The Largest Tax Increase in the History of Oregon Passed! And to that We Say: Bag ‘Em!

Send these bags to every single state senator, democrat and republican, AND the Governor to say “NO!” to huge tax increases which would KILL 36,000 jobs at a time when Oregon is among the worst in unemployment. The Oregon Senate is next up with the Governor to follow up after that.
Here are the state senator and the Governor. While you’re at it, send your Tea Bags to Representatives Greg Smith and Bob Jenson without whose votes the individual income tax increase would not have passed.
And remember the words of FreedomWorks chief and vice chair of the Oregon GOP, “I swear to God they will not come back to this building.”
