Astroturf in D.C. Grassroots Protest

Makes me wonder how many of our own don’t have a clue what they are out there protesting.

“One group of about ten Hispanic protesters marched behind a Caucasian individual from the DC Tenants Advocacy Coalition, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting rent control in Washington, D.C.”

“Asked why they were there, some Hispanic protesters holding up English protest signs could not articulate what their signs said.”

“Interviewed in Spanish, the protesters told conflicting stories about how their group was organized. Some said it was organized at their church, and that they were there as volunteers. Others, however, referred to the man from the DC Tenants Advocacy Coalition — the only Caucasian in the group — as their ‘boss’.”

OPERATION FLEA BATH HAS COMMENCED

From the Oregon Tea Party and Operation Flea Bath Facebook page (here):

Welcome to Operation: Flea Bath.

Our objective is to hold our institutions accountable to taxpayers to enforce the law regarding the illegal protest activity.

We absolutely respect all citizen’s First Amendment rights to free speech and expression. But that does not extend to illegal activities that disrupt and despoil the broader community’s ability to enjoy our public spaces.

We are taxpayers that fund the Parks Department and Police Department and our group is dedicated to ensuring that our government is accountable to all taxpayers by enforcing the law for all citizens.

The Occupy Portland protesters – aka Fleabaggers – have refused outreach by the city to help them plan a lawful protest event. Their plan to “occupy” Waterfront Park is nothing short of illegal camping and trespassing.

Waterfront Park is officially closed from 12:01am – 5:00am each day. It is illegal for any group to camp, loiter or protest during those hours.

Check back on this page for up to the minute contact info to make your complaint to the Portland Park Rangers and Portland Police Department.

Does PDX Rainbow City Council Have Guts to Arrest Law Breaking "Occupiers?"

I worry about Portland’s political will to protect lawful citizens versus the rabble that may cause violence as the Oppressive Occupiers take to the streets. Here’s what I mean.
Tuesday the Portland Police Bureau sent out this missive:

News Release from: Portland Police Bureau
UPDATE: OCCUPY PORTLAND, THURSDAY OCTOBER 6TH AT NOON
Posted: October 4th, 2011 2:14 PM

Update:  As of today, Tuesday October 4, 2011, event organizers have not obtained a permit for ‘Occupy Portland’.  There is another planning meeting this evening and we are continuing to encourage organizers to obtain a permit.  Permits are important to helping establish guidelines so that there is a safe and peaceful and lawful event. We have also not been told what the route is going to be.

We want people to know that we believe that there may be disruptions in vehicle, pedestrian and Tri-Met traffic in the downtown core Thursday, October 6, 2011 beginning at noon continuing throughout the afternoon.

Anticipating that people may intend to occupy Portland Parks as a result of this event we want to remind people that under City Code Park Rule 20.12.210 Hours of Park Closure:

A.  No person shall be in a Park during hours of park closure.  Unless the Director designates otherwise for any Park, “hours of park closure” means any time between the hours of 12:01 a.m. and 5 a.m. This offense is a class “B” Misdemeanor and under the City Code those who violate Park rules can be arrested.

We will continue to provide updates as they are available.

Yesterday morning the Portland Police Bureau sent out this press release to the media announcing the avowed law breaking by the Occupy Portland crowd:

As of 10:30 a.m. today, Wednesday October 5, 2011, “Occupy Portland” event organizers have expressed that they will not be obtaining a permit and will not share any information on a march route or locations that the march may “occupy” along the way. …

The Portland Police Bureau received a fax last night from “Occupy Portland” stating the following:

“Currently there is no plan to obtain a permit since this movement has no leadership and further legal advice from the National Lawyers Guild advises against obtaining a permit. For best impact we will march in the streets and disrupt the city.”

Representatives from the City of Portland and the Portland Police Bureau have been in dialogue with ‘Occupy Portland’ event organizers in the hopes that they will provide route information to the Police Bureau.

And just 70 minutes after receiving that message, the Police Commissioner, Mayor Sam Adams sent out this tweet:

MayorSamAdams Mayor Sam Adams

Thx for all efforts to organize effective & peaceful event. RT @OccupyPdx Got your sleeping bag for some #occupation S’mores?…#Pdx #in #fb

(at 11:40am)

What efforts could he possible be referring to? They just sent out a fax that said they wouldn’t cooperate! And, after reporting that on the air apparently the Mayor got a little blow back. He sent out this tweet about a “news conference” which wasn’t announced to our newsroom at least and wasn’t on the city’s flash alert:

Mayor Sam Adams
MayorSamAdams Mayor Sam Adams

At 2pm news conference: re @OccupyPdx event. ‘We are focused on facilitating peaceful event for participants & Central #Pdx stakeholders.’
(at 2:25pm)

There was reference to the “super quick news conference” by the Mayor two hours later in the Mercury:

UPDATE 4:15PM—Mayor Adams held a super quick press conference about the protest this afternoon. He noted that the city has sent cops and other staffers to Occupy planning sessions: “We’re doing every thing we can to make sure we facilitate a peaceful event… We’ll deal with issues as they arise. I’ve told the police bureau not to deal with what-ifs.”
Adams also told everyone to go to publicalerts.org, the city clearing house for news alerts, for info on traffic and TriMet delays.

He has no plan. He thinks his “progressive” personae will allow him to sweet talk this rabble into doing no harm. What are the chances?

GOP Presidential Debate Comes to Oregon

Here’s a news release from the Oregon Republican Party:

Portland, Ore. – Oregon Republican Party Chairman Allen Alley announced today that the Republican National Committee has approved a proposal by the Oregon GOP to host a Presidential Primary debate in Portland, Oregon on Monday, March 19th, at 6:00 PM PST. This 90-minute debate between the Republican candidates for president is offered in cooperation with the Oregon Public Broadcasting (OPB), Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), NPR, and print and digital partner, The Washington Times. This debate will likely be the only Republican Presidential Primary debate to reach all Americans, not just those who subscribe to cable and/or satellite television services. The 350 television stations affiliated with PBS reach 99 percent of the population of the United States, and are watched by 124 million people each month. NPR and its 270 member radio stations reach a weekly audience of over 33 million listeners. Millions more watch and listen online at PBS.org and NPR.org.

“This is the most substantive presidential debate proposal the
Republican National Committee has ever sanctioned,” RNC Debate
Committee Chairman Jim Bopp said, after the committee had voted to
make the debate an official, RNC-approved event.
“The format fashioned by Oregon GOP Chairman Allen Alley is truly
innovative in its call for a two-minute answer per candidate, with
the requirement that each candidate articulate his political
philosophy first, then identify the causes of a problems the nation
faces and finally offer realistic solutions to address the causes,”
Mr. Bopp said.

State Chairman Allen Alley put this deal together and says this debate may be key. Under current GOP rules, there’s no mathematical chance that the GOP candidate will have been selected before April 24th.
