Unions Use "The Children" as Human Shields in Salem Today

It’s President’s Day so you know what that means: it’s May Day again.
President’s Day is now the day schools, unions, far left groups and educational status quo types flock to the capitol to beg for more money–for “the children.”

Public employee unions were given their three day weekends in the 1970’s.  Lincoln’s and Washington’s Birthdays thrown into one day. Instead of the kids going to school and learning about one of the founders of the United States of America and the President who freed the slaves, they are now being asked by their schools, the districts, unions, progressive groups et al (see here) to act as human shields to grub more money from taxpayers.

Isn’t it great? Unions use taxpayers’ email lists from the schools to convince taxpayers’ kids to get more money from the taxpayers while getting a day off paid by the taxpayers, while using their union dues (automatically taken from their checks and handed over to the unions at taxpayers’ expense) to buy democrats for office. Neat, huh?

And, of course, the Portland Public Schools spokesman, Matt Shelby, says it’s not a political event. That would be–gasp! wrong!
Let’s look at the groups the schools encouraging students to protest alongside.

American Federation of Teachers – Oregon –teachers union
Bus Project –which now touts establishing a “politicorps” for “young activists”and supports only  leftist, ‘progressive’ causes
Children’s Institute Community &Parents for Public Schools, Portland–Minority rights, pro public schools organization
Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon –an organization which allies itself with only liberal causes.
Friends of Music–the website that comes up is a PPS one at Beaumont School
Onward Oregon–a leftist group which currently supports a state sponsored bank
Oregon Business Association–the liberal business association
Oregon Education Association –the teachers union
Oregon Head Start Association–advocating for more government spending on early education
Partnership for Safety & Justice–youthful offender stay out of prison group–a liberal cause
Progressive Oregon–Noah Heller, the apparent leader of this group, lobbies for the ban on plastic bags, has written for the Daily Kos, a far left blog and Blue Oregon
Rural Organizing Project–this old timey organization appears now to have morphed into a gay rights groups
Salem/Keizer Coalition for Equality
Stand for Children–which crowed about electing “pro school” (liberals) to office.

Sounds non partisan to me. Oh wait…
Stand for Children is buying the buses to get the children to this event–except kids have to pay $5. Students, in turn, will be given community service credit. As Matt Shelby points out it doesn’t really matter what the cause is, getting kids involved is the most important thing.

Well, I suppose the school district will be greasing the skids to get word out to all parents in the district to get their kids involved in the Tea Party movement and Stand for Children will, no doubt, really stand up for children in supporting an organization that doesn’t want to saddle ‘the children’ with the debt that is being run up in their name.
