Advocates to start collecting signatures for soda-tax initiative for the Multnomah County ballot

A citizens group calling itself Yes for a Stronger Multnomah County says it will start collecting signatures to put a soda tax of 1 cent per ounce on the November 2012 ballot. The initiative, if successful, would generate $35 million a year for after-school and jobs programs for children and teens, backers say.
