Help us Defend the Integrity of the Referendum Process!
Legislators are considering a bill (HB2414) that is an attempt to defraud the voters of the state of Oregon.
HB 2414 was gutted and stuffed with an amendment that is blatantly aimed at misleading voters if the $700 million in new, permanent taxes are successfully referred. The Oregon constitution is clear about a referendum. If a voter chooses to approve a piece of legislation, they vote “yes” on the referred legislation. Conversely, if a voter chooses to oppose the legislation, they vote “no” on the referred legislation. Each voter, like each legislator, gives a thumbs up or a thumbs down to the legislation whether they’re voting in the House chamber, or voting at their kitchen table.
The goal of HB 2414 is to create confusion on the ballot. When voters are confused about an initiative they tend to vote no the issue. This is a blatant attempt to defraud the voters of Oregon and create confusion on the ballot.
Under the bill politicians are trying to sneak through today (HB2414):
A “yes” vote means you oppose the referred legislation; and
A “no” vote means you support the referred legislation.
“Yes” would mean “No Taxes” and “No” would mean “Yes Taxes.”
This is an arrogant, blatant attempt to confuse voters and create ballot confusion. This bill cannot pass! Take Action NOW to send a message to your legislators in Salem! Also, please forward this message to all of your friends so that we can spread the word about this quickly!
Sincerely,
