Now see if I were a leftist writer my headline would be: Oregon’s Temp AG Rosenblum Gets Bought Off by Drug Lords or some such thing. You be the judge. This blurb appeared in Rosenblum’s husband’s newspaper, Willamette Week:

Rosenblum, the state’s top law enforcement officer (and wife of WW Publisher Richard Meeker). WW asked Rosenblum’s office if she was giving the contributions back. The answer: no.

James Buchal the Ivy League educated Republican running Rosenblum says the entire matter is ridiculous. His campaign dashed off a missive following WW’s story yesterday:

Attorney General Candidate James Buchal tweaked interim Attorney General Rosenblum for accepting (and refusing to return) campaign contributions from “High Hopes Farms”, recently the subject of a federal anti-marijuana raid near Jacksonville, Oregon, as reported in today’s Willamette Week. 

 “The irony of all this is that Oregon’s medical marijuana community must be high if it thinks Attorney General Rosenblum is going to protect it,” said Buchal.  “The principled conservative position, which I hold, is that the federal government’s power to regulate interstate commerce does not extend to regulating what people grow in their backyards and smoke.  That is a state matter.  But Leftists like Rosenblum want to put the federal government in charge of everything, so they have twisted the Constitution beyond recognition.”  Buchal has been campaigning on a platform of decentralization and simplification, on the basis that it doesn’t make sense to have multiple layers of government and agencies in charge of the same subject matter, and we can no longer afford such waste.

Buchal supports county-by-county regulation letting local communities establish their own controls on intrastate marijuana sales–and many other issues as well.  “Our state government has implemented an epidemic of excessive control and micromanagement in Oregon.”  Buchal suggests, for example, that “if rural Oregonians let Portlanders smoke marijuana, and Portlanders let the rural Oregonians shoot the wolves that are killing their livestock, we’d all get along better, and have more money in our pockets.”
