Signs in their yard have been ripped up, their car bearing a pro life sticker spat upon (several times) and their sanity has been openly questioned. It’s just another day in the life of a conservative couple living in the tolerant blue zone known as NE Portland.
This couple, whom I will not identify, is being hazed for their political beliefs.
On a recent sunny day, a bicyclist rode by, slammed on his brakes after seeing the John McCain/Sarah Palin and Gordon Smith signs and shouted at the couple, “What? You’re crazy!”
Others melodramatically shake their heads as they stroll or ride by (I was there barely 5 minutes and saw it for myself). The couple reports it happens all the time.
But now it’s just gotten worse. Now they’re getting hate mail from the tolerant crowd.
I was in the neighborhood today and talked to the Postman. He told me he remembers delivering that hateful post card. He said he remembers it because he actually read it said and was struck by how mean spirited it was. I asked him if he knew who sent it. “Nope,” he said. “But this place is filled with a bunch of democrats.”
I’m sure there are a lot of well meaning democrats who would abhor this behavior.
But there are sure a lot of them out there willing to use intimidation tactics to shut up the opposition.
The democrats this election season seek to shut up their political competition by threatening to silence radio talk shows, get rid of the secret ballot in the workplace–opening it up to intimidation, and silence babies’ voices forever. What you’re seeing here isn’t politics. It’s the consolidation of their political power to bring about totalitarianism. All Hail the Mighty Obama.
