When I first met Manuel Castaneda from Hillsboro I told a friend,  “I think I’ve just met a future governor of Oregon.” But I get ahead of myself. First up Castaneda must win his house seat.

Manuel Castaneda is a businessman from Washington County. Ever heard of Pro Landscaping? He’s a self made man with 30 employees.

Castaneda was born in a shack with no electricity and water in a Mexican village and came to this country when he was a kid.  He’s a legal citizen. He’s an American success story. And now he’s running for office as a Republican. He’s running against Jeff Barker, a Democrat for House District 28.

The Aloha businessman is what so many Americans of Mexican descent are: Self reliant, hard working, family oriented, conservative minded. Castaneda epitomizes the values of the Republican party and is an example of why more Americans of Mexican descent should be a part of the GOP. Being in the GOP isn’t a white guy thing, it’s an American values thing. He believes in hard work, few government hand outs and the American dream. That’s how he’s made it.

He is also the left’s worst nightmare: He’s Hispanic and he’s on OUR side. People have noticed. According to the Daily Caller, Castaneda is on the National Party’s radar:

The Mexican-born owner of a landscaping business from Washington County is one of 114 Hispanics involved in the Future Majority Project, an effort of veteran GOP strategist Ed Gillespie’s Republican State Leadership Committee.

The project is an organized effort to recruit and support qualified Hispanic candidates for legislative and other seats at the state level. The idea is to develop a farm team of candidates for a party that is looking for ways to appeal to and win over Hispanics.

Last week, Castaneda and nine other top-tier recruits of the Future Majority Project from nine states gathered in Dallas for a private summit that included meetings with prominent Hispanics like Republican Govs. Susana Martinez of New Mexico and Brian Sandoval of Nevada.

Get to know him. He could be your Governor one day.
