Paying taxes and being a good private and corporate citizen isn’t enough anymore. Barack Obama’s US Government now owns the American Dream and apportions it as it sees fit. You didn’t make it on your own, American Businessperson, you took something from someone else. Now it’s time to pay “your fair share.”

This was the message of the President at an eat-the-rich-class-warfare-campaign-tour over the weekend. And the message from the Supreme Leader couldn’t have been any clearer: You owe us more of the fruits of your success. You didn’t get there on your own, we helped you, so pony up. He might as well have said, “From each according to his ability, to each according to his need.”

Channeling Senate Candidate, Elizabeth Warren, Obama said:

“…if you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own. You didn’t get there on your own. I’m always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart. There are a lot of smart people out there. It must be because I worked harder than everybody else. Let me tell you something — there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there. (Applause.) If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive.”

The President assumes that the government is the driver of success. He is saying that government should claim the first fruits of your labor, indeed all of them. This is what American Exceptionalism looks like to him. True American exceptionalism is built upon the individual making of him or herself what they can and being given the freedom to do it. He has turned the idea on its head.

He just doesn’t get it. Or doesn’t want to.

America, you’re in trouble.
