Obama Reveals Lack of Appeal at Al Smith Dinner

While Mitt Romney killed it at the Al Smith Dinner whose purpose is to honor and aid Catholic charities (see below), President Obama revealed why it is that he doesn’t connect with a large swath of the American public.

Although he told some funny jokes on himself, albeit still discussing his horrible first debate performance (keep talking, Mr President!), he also unintentionally telegraphed the problem he has this election cycle: his record.

His wind up begins with observing how nice it is to sit at dinner with people from both the public and private sectors and then gives the Catholic Church thanks for all the good it does–to sustained applause–though this man has done more to deconstruct the good that the Catholic Church does than any other previous President through his HHS mandates in ObamaCare.

Then he said,

“It’s written in Scripture that tribulation produces perseverance and perseverance, character and character, hope. This country has fought through some very tough years together. And while we still have a lot of work ahead, we’ve come as far as we have mainly because of the perseverance and character of ordinary Americans.”

Watch at 7:51 in the following video.

Mr. President, you’re wrong. We haven’t been fighting together. You’ve been fighting US. You’ve been off redistributing what we earn faster than our grandchildren can pay it off. It’s only through our personal perseverance and character that we’ve made it this far—no thanks to you.

Everything is worse since you took over. Everything. You promised to ‘fundamentally transform’ our country. Oh, you have. You’ve transformed us from aspiring princes to paupers, from convenience store shoppers to coupon clippers, from full time jobs to part time, less pay jobs, from excited to see our college graduates strike their own paths to welcoming them to our basements.

You drive your yacht through the flotsam and jetsam of our lives, set a new course, and don’t bother throwing a  life preserver to those of us drowning out here.

Your exploding welfare programs, your redistributionism, has only served to dispirit millions of people who now believe someone else will take care of them. You’ve robbed them of their choices and potential and then sent the bill to the rest of us in this country who are barely hanging on to their jobs.

It didn’t have to be this way. But it’s the way you wanted it.
