Obama’s Middle East Policy Rests With Crank Pastor

In case you missed it, the President of the United States ordered the head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff to call that crank Pastor in Florida to urge him to disavow that awful anti Islam movie. The movie is being used as an excuse for the sacking of the Libyan safe house and murder of the US Ambassador and attempted sacking of the US Embassy in Cairo.

I’m sure the General was sheepish and all, but you, uh, can’t order the US Military chief call a private citizen and, uh, urge him to do squat. The supposed “Commander” in Chief and Constitutional Law Lecturer should know better. The fact that the liberal media aren’t thoroughly vetting this aspect of the story tells you they’re untrustworthy. If President Bush had done this…

But consider this: apparently our entire Middle East “policy” rests on the shoulders of a crank case Pastor and his affinity for pissing off Muslims? What could possibly go wrong? 

The movie, of course, is not the cause of this conflict. Sure, the idea of it is being used by leaders to rile up some crowds, but that the attacks were on September 11th should should tell you all you need to know. They were preplanned. The hit on on the Ambassador was ordered by #2 Al Qaeda honcho, Ayman Zawahiri, for the drone attack on a big shot Al Qaeda guy in Pakistan who hailed from Libya. Zawahiri’s brother was in the scrum outside the Cairo Embassy. Oy.

Few people have seen the trailer for the ‘film’–if the film exists at all. On the bright side, if the 7th century Arab Street has seen it, they can thank American and Israeli technology for their ability to do so.

Martin Dempsey, the chairman of President Obama’s Joint Chiefs of Staff, spoke Wednesday morning by phone with Terry Jones, pleading with the Florida-based anti-Islamic pastor to stop promoting a film that protesters have cited in the attacks on the U.S. consulate in Libya that killed at least four American diplomats.
“This was a brief call,” an Obama administration official told reporters Wednesday, adding that Dempsey discussed the “tensions it could inflame and the violence it could cause.”
“He asked Pastor Jones to consider withdrawing his support for the film,” the administration official said, adding: “Mr. Jones did hear the chairman’s concerns but he was non-committal.”
Jones told NBC’s Orlando affiliate that he didn’t play any role in the film — “Innocence of Muslims” — but did plan to show it to his church in Gainesville and that he’d promote it to a wider audience.
“When we do our activities, when we raise our awareness of the radical element of Islam, we are posing those people absolutely no danger,” Jones said. “We are, perhaps, insulting some people, but just because you are insulted, it gives you no right to break into someone’s house, go into his yard, kill him and destroy his property. So we should by no means excuse their activities.”
