Stop the Madness

Have you ever had a team building assignment where you had to walk a mile in someone else’s shoes?  I want that hour back. Now American men are being asked to double down on the craziness by donning high heels and spending a day marching against rape.

Yes, you read that right.

The Walk a Mile in Her Shoes latest “Walk for fill in the blank”  idea probably sounded cool when some seniors in search of a mandatory project hatched it over cold pizza while strung out on Mountain Dew.

“Hey, I know, let’s do a march against rape! Everybody but rapists are against that, right? Now, what’s our hook? What will get us noticed? Wait–let’s punk guys into wearing high heels and tell them it will help end violence against women! …So epic!”

So now men are walking down the streets of America in high heels.

I’m no prude. I’ve seen men in drag on buses, in marches –outside Spartacus leather shop in downtown Portland. I have an autographed picture of Darcelle. I buy my cosmetics at the downtown Nordstrom MAC counter! Can’t we leave the gay crossing dressing to, well, gay cross dressers?

Men are already carrying purses, for crying out loud. Can’t we just stop the madness? Can’t we just leave alone what heterosexual men we have left?

I like men being men, not Nancy boys. If men just stand up in their own shoes and speak out– like men– against raping women and then not actually not go out and rape women, I’m good with that.

Let’s allow them to be against violence like the men we’d like them to be.

Just a thought.
