Memo to Portland Mayor Sam Adams: Guns Don’t Kill People, Gang Members Kill People

As Lew has rightly pointed out in his excellent post on the six shootings in NE Portland on Friday (here), Portland Mayor Sam Adams continues to live in denial about the nature of this violence.

There’s a gang war going on and he won’t admit it. Worse for Adams, this war involves black teens. He can’t bring himself to look like he’s picking on a minority group. That’s right, even if it’s a reality he stays in denial about who’s committing the violence. He’d rather be politically correct than honest.

Sam’s unhealthy and fanciful beliefs about guns are displayed in his twitter feed which you can see nearby.
What are “gun murders?” Isn’t murder just murder?

Mr. Mayor, the black entire community needs your honesty, not your irrational and borderline hysterical intolerance of guns. You insult the intelligence of everyone in Portland when you deny that gang mentality, break down of the family, poor education, lack of civic structure is what the problem is. Not holding people responsible, coddling, and grievance peddling is an injustice to us all.

The Mayor is under the fanciful notion that it’s better to demonize the gun than the shooter. He believes if he can get rid of guns he’ll get rid of violence.
