MEETING TONIGHT! Citizens Versus Choo Choo Lobby in Lake Oswego

Do you think a street car to between Portland’s failed south waterfront apartment city and the bucolic burg of Lake Oswego is a good or a bad idea? A public hearing is set for tonight (Lake Oswego City Hall (380 A Avenue) for public input on the street car. Ask the folks over at the website www.450millionandcounting.com and they’ll tell you ‘No Thanks!”

“[It]will cost $458 million in taxpayers’ money just to build and will profoundly impact our quality of life — damaging our environment, creating more crime, causing increased congestion, and costing precious dollars that could be going to real community priorities like schools and libraries.

The meeting starts at 6pm tonight, but if you want a chance to have your voice heard you might want to get to the meeting at 5pm to get your name on the list of speakers. As we know, paid proponents of these plans often cram the speakers list to give the appearance of the ‘inevitability’ of these projects.
I have a couple of questions about this half BILLION dollar project. See this quote by Sam Adams?

“The line has always been envisioned in the planning for South Waterfront’s transportation needs. It will also allow the build-out of the Johns Landing neighborhood, which is necessary to help accommodate the 300,000 more people expected to move here by 2035,” says Adams, referring to the approximate number of new residents Portland is planning to receive over the next 24 years.

Who is clamoring for the ‘build out’ of Johns Landing? Where are they going to cram those people, tent cities or something? How many businesses will have to be sacrificed to the holy god of choo choos to accommodate the street car and these newcomers–if they come to Portland?
The other question I have is: Who is clamoring for the build out of foothills in Lake Oswego? Isn’t that area like the geographical signpost telling people they’re in the ‘burbs now? WHO besides planning apparatchiks and Homer Williams (LA condo project go bust or something, Homer? Back here for more slop at the government trough again?) is calling for hot and cold running condos turned apartments at this area?
They don’t explain how this project will mitigate congestion. Streets cars don’t mitigate congestion for commuters so what’s the net gain here?
