When a Kid Has God in Their Lives, They’ll Know Better Than to Steal

Parenting matters. I’m not bragging, I’m just glad that this kid wasn’t my kid. But I know one thing: Having God in your life–your kids’ lives–

Thou Shalt Not Steal. Get it? Got it? Good! Love, God.
Thou Shalt Not Steal. Get it? Got it? Good! Love, God.

is better than no God.

From the City of Sherwood Police Department:

On September 2nd, 2013 a Good Samaritan and Sherwood resident intervened and stopped a theft at the Sherwood Dutch Bros. The Good Samaritan, who wishes to remain anonymous and declined any interviews, detained the subject until police arrived.

And here’s the ‘graf that stopped my heart a bit,

Sherwood Police arrested Adrian Estrella, (born 03/15/1994) of Sherwood and charged him with Theft III and PCS-Heroin. Mr. Estrella was standing at the walk up window at Dutch Bros. when he took cash from the tip jar and walked away from the business. The Good Samaritan contacted Estrella and detained him until police were able to respond. The Good Samaritan told Estrella it was wrong to steal and the money belonged to the business.

In 1994, I gave birth to our third daughter at Providence St. Vincent’s two days before that young man was born. She has grown up to be a wonderful young woman, imbued with God’s Holy Spirit. She seeks Him daily.

How differently this young man’s life would have been–and may yet be–if he had met and received God– and followed Him.

I also am glad the Good Samaritan taught that kid a lesson by telling him it was wrong to steal. Perhaps it’s the first time that 19 year old had ever heard that message.
