There are few things quite so insulting as when one tries to marginalize and dismiss your viewpoint in unfair terms. Especially one you might think knows better.
That was the case Sunday last when Tom Potter wrote an op ed in the Zero…comparing the folks who oppose illegal alien amnesty…Potter’s Shrine to Crime Illegal Alien Day Care and Job Center…and his capitulation to anarchists and aliens alike…as racists who were no better than those who manned fire hoses to keep blacks from voting in the 1950’s and 60’s.
The mayor has overstepped the boundaries of sense, taste, and logic—and that’s being generous.
Worse he has underestimated his constituents.
Liberals like to think in terms of fairness. It’s not fair if I make more money than you. It’s not fair if I have a pretty car and you don’t. It’s not fair if I go to a better school than you. That, of course, is what redistributionism is all about. Rob Peter to pay Paul. You know the drill.
And he has forgotten about this as he makes his void proclamations about how racist those are who oppose his liberal view of illegal aliens.
Potter supports his Shrine to Crime to match illegals with employers illegally hiring them. He wants his police bureau to continue its hands off approach to illegals. He does this in defiance of facts about crime stats by illegals and in defiance of our horror and outrage at the murder and rape of 15 year old Dani Countryman allegedly by two men whom we know are illegal aliens.
Liberals know Potter isn’t being fair. They know he’s being unfair to them and unfair to citizens of this city, county, and country.
He has overdrawn his account at the good intentions emotional bank. He’s racking up the overdraft charges in bad will from his homies.
And then he calls them racists.
Potter thinks he’ll bring them over to his side by dragging out the ‘let’s blame it on the talk show hosts’ trope. He thinks he can chum his way back into their good graces by throwing out a little red meat, but he’s wrong.
He states in his op ed that when he spoke up in June about his concern about the Fresh Del Monte plant bust by ICE, “the silence that followed was deafening.” And continued, “Many people whom I respect sat on their hands —and their principles—and said nothing”
So now you’re unprincipled, too.
Is it wrong and unprincipled to stand for social order? The law? What is fair? What is right?
The silence he refers to was from our open mouthed shock at just how far this guy’s moral compass has strayed from true north.
At the end of his piece he verbally throws up his hands and says he “came to understand we can’t enforce our way out of bad laws and bad public policy.”
He has also missed the biggest point of all: that what his fair-minded constituency hired him to do was to try AND follow the law.
For the rest of us we already knew the man was morally bankrupt when he rode with critical mass and allowed them –as per usual—to ignore traffic laws, laws of social order; when he pulled out of the JTTF in the 7th year of a nine year investigation into two terror groups ELF and ALF and AFTER the Portland Seven Jihadi group was broken up; when he suggests sitting down with zoobombers to negotiate the laws they’ll be allowed to break on their nighttime runs taking over Portland streets; when he allowed the anarchist/?IDA?/PETA?/ALF? folks to terrorize researchers and brokers at their homes and did nothing; and when he allowed a 112 year old company be bullied out of business by Animal “Rights” protesters when the owners wouldn’t sit down and negotiate their surrender to the protesters.
It’s time for this Mayor to go.
