Freedom Rally Versus Health "Care" Rally

It was quite a sight on Sunday afternoon at 5:15. We gathered outside the Democratic Party HQ of Oregon (9th and NE Everett) for a counter rallyto oppose the government take over of health care. We left about an hour later as planned. The Democrats’ “rally,” urged on by the Obama Presidency’s west wing ensconced group, ‘Organizing for America,’ had by my count three (3) people show up.

Our smallish gathering of 75 (my estimate) to 150 people, quietly held our signs, occasionally chanted “Freedom!” and got into small groups to talk about why we were opposed to the health care bill. Several folks running for office who have been Tea Party goers and Town Hall attendees all along gave speeches. Senate candidate Marc Delphine, first CD candidate John Kuzmanich, Portland City Commission candidate Mike Courtney, and a Multnomah County Commission candidate all showed up. I saw faces there I had never seen before. It was heartening.
Organizers Jeff Ludt  and Tom Cox had people in the small groups choose a spokesman to give their chief reason why they were opposed to the government take over of health care. Small businessmen spoke, a gentleman from Gresham spoke eloquently about why government intervention has distorted the school saystem and believes the same would happen to the health care market. The small group speakers, for the most part, were from Multnomah County. We’re seeing the birth of a movement in Mult Co.
I got comments from folks and I’ll be playing them on the show 11-3pm today.
I got a chuckle out of one lady (of the three) I saw going to the DPO. She didn’t want to have to go through our crowd to get to the door (even though we left both entrances free and clear). In an exasperated tone she said, Why can’t you go and do your negative stuff on the other side over there (pointing across the street). We were out there to demonstrate for FREEDOM and she called it a negative. That’s why they’re OPPRESSIVES…not PROgressives.
I saw Tom Hann, of wepeeps.org and they’re planning a rally in front Brian Baird’s office Tuesday to say “Thanks” for voting “no” on the last health care bill.
