Dignity Village…Gets the Better of the City of Portland (and taxpayers). Again.

Last week, while you were on vacation or thinking about Christmas, the City of Portland codified its relationship with “Dignity Village.” It’s a healthy relationship; if you consider blackmail the basis for the start of a great relationship. The upshot is the dignity villagers, who understandably call themselves “liberty” villagers now, are being allowed to stay on their plot of land till the end of the decade. And in return the city receives a periodic report on the village’s attempts to find permanent housing for the villagers, live rent free, and continue to receive your generous donations as a 501c3 organization. The point of Dignity Village in the first place of course was not to provide transitional housing. That’s jive.
