Yes, CD 1 is Purple. Let’s Paint it Red.

The word came down late last night that the primary for the race to replace David Wu will be held November 8, 2011 while the general election will be held in January of 2012.

While the Democrats have a huge advantage in the district, that advantage has been tapered by the recent redistricting and disgust with a Democrat party that has covered for David Wu amid news stories, speculations and behavior all these years.

Make no mistake, it will be a David/Goliath battle. The Republicans haven’t held this seat for decades, and confront not only an electoral disadvantage but also the embedded disadvantage since the D’s control every single lever of government–and aren’t afraid to use it.

The Democrat party is the party of big government. Growing government is in the DNA of the party for one main reason. When they need troops for re election, government union members salute en mass and march up the hill for the folks who promise to give them better pay and benefits: Democrats.  Unions provide the ground troops that can be –like MRE’s–reconstituted at a moment’s notice. Add money and voila! Instant army.

The Governor of Multnomah County, John Kitzhaber, and Secretary of State Kate Brown are among the most partisan executives we’ve seen this side of Kulongoski and Bradley. They’re not afraid to use every official and unofficial tool at their disposal to keep this seat in Democrat hands. Their boy, Brad Avakian, has been using his position at the Bureau of Labor and Industries to push forward the liberal agenda at the expense of freedom and jobs (more on this in later posts).

Make no mistake, if our candidate gets one toe out of line, or if the left squints and THINKS they see a toe out of line, it will be demonized and a willing press will lap it up. TV and radio will see the headlines and pick up the narrative.

The Republicans have many faithful as well as the Tea Party hoping to claim another Congressional seat. The 1st CD provides a huge opportunity. However it will take every single Independent, Republican and conservative in Oregon to swarm CD 1 from today forward to tell our story to have a chance at this seat.

The election will be held just eleven months before the big test of November 2012.
Scott Brown showed the way in Massachusetts in January 2010, depriving the Democrats of their crucial 60th vote to ram through legislation. Then came the continued conservative wave in the November 2010 elections when Republicans took over the US House of Representatives and declawed Nancy Pelosi.

We can do it. How badly do we want this?
