Earlier this week the McMinnville “Education” Association –the teachers union–was crowing about how their efforts paid off in getting Leslie Van Blaricom fired from On Point Credit Union (formerly Portland Teachers CU) for reading a letter they didn’t like at a recent school board meeting. (see post here).
Interesting that today when Eric talked to the head of the union (she answered her cell phone while teaching her class–who knew?) she went all Sgt Schultz on us contending the union had nothing to do with Van Blaricom’s firing. Sure. The union brought pressure on the credit union to fire the Chamber member –and registered democrat–for reading the letter which included this poison pill:
The district should not spend any additional money towards teacher salary and/or benefits if doing so will require the district to reduce teaching positions and increase classroom sizes to pay for them in order to meet its budget. We should hope the union would see the benefit of smaller class sizes on their members workload and student performance but to date, they have continued to insist on additional wage and benefit increases even though the district indicates that such demands could mean the loss of as many as 40+ teaching positions.
For reading that Chamber statement at the recent school board meeting, Van Blaricom became public enemy #1. And it certainly was treated so on the MEA (union) facebook page.
This is what their Facebook looked like earlier this week when they crowed about their accomplishment.
And today:
If they didn’t change or redact it, what explains this?
