Republican Presidential nominee Mitt Romney left the Republican National Convention today to attend the National American Legion Convention in Indianapolis, IN, on Wednesday, August 30, 2012.
Romney took the unusual step of leaving the Republican National Convention at which he is to be nominated for the presidency in Tampa on Thursday, to fly to the Legion Convention in Indianapolis to honor the invitation to speak before the wartime veterans of the Legion. He said the invitation to appear and speak to the assembled veterans was an honor which he felt could not be declined, no matter his obligations to his own Convention. He expressed great gratitude for the service and sacrifice of all veterans, saying it was they who answered the country’s call to defend freedom for all Americans
Please take notice that I shall not be conveying a report on the speech of President Barack Obama, as there wasn’t one. That is, Commander in Chief Obama did decline the invitation to appear. Instead, he made a “virtual appearance,” i.e., he sent a short video tape of himself. In the interest of full disclosure, I report that, in response to Obama’s decision to make but a “virtual appearance,” I recommended, following the principle of perfect equality, that he should be accorded a “virtual audience.” I then followed my own advice.)
