A & F Catalog? No. Bus Project Flyer |
UPDATED WITH JULY JAMES O’KEEFE INTERVIEW
The far left Bus Project, when it’s not being inspired by basket case Mayoral Candidate and Oregon Bus Project founder, Jefferson Smith, is taking its far left politics into Portland High Schools.
The school district tells parents:
PPS high school students are embracing their place in this country’s democracy by launching a district-wide voter registration drive in partnership with the nonprofit, nonpartisan Bus Project Foundation.
The Bus Project is not non partisan. It works exclusively for Democrats–far left ones–with one recent exception: a state rep who voted for huge tax increases.

Bus Stopped in Drug Bust in July |
The Project’s finances are questionable and the Project’s bus was pulled over for drugs in a major sting operation in July. No drugs were found. The Project said it was sending “volunteers” to a notoriously drug fueled weekend rock concert in Washington County. Guess they wanted to sign up drunk and drugged folks. Do you want your kids “volunteering” there?
The Bus Project will sent “Democracy Mentors” into the classrooms across Portland’s high schools to register 17 year olds to vote and get the 18 year olds to vote for the leftist causes they believe in. And why not bring the circle full round? Oregon State Rep and [private] school teacher, Ben Cannon, a few years ago passed a bill allowing 17 years old to register to vote. I wonder what party they most often registered for—the one their teachers belonged to?
Here’s what the district says:The Bus Project Foundation is partnering with PPS as part of its statewide Democracy Cup young voters registration and education program. Bus Project mentors are teaching the students effective public speaking methods and outreach techniques. The Bus Project’s goal: create a new generation of dedicated and informed lifelong voters
We used to call people who showed students effective public speaking methods “speech teachers.”
The “outreach techniques” have included riding the bus and knocking on doors to tout overwhelmingly far left candidates and causes selected by the Bus Project. In 2010, North Clackamas School District Board Chief Cheryl Myers was running for state representative. Even though the Bus Project wasn’t one of the district’s chosen charities, volunteers were given community service credit to work on her behalf. See story links below.
The Bus Project is “ridiculously excited” to announce its partnership with PPS in latest August:
That’s why we’re ridiculously excited to announce a brand-spankin’-new partnership with Portland Public Schools to help make sure every junior and senior in the PPS system gets further exposure and access to their democracy.
Specifically, we’re working with PPS’s Family Engagement & Superintendent’s Advisory Council to place Democracy Mentors in high schools throughout the Portland area as part of our state-wide civic engagement challenge: Democracy Cup.
These Bus-trained volunteers will teach students effective public speaking methods and outreach techniques and will help develop empowered leaders for the next generation of voters. The students they meet have the option to register to vote right then and there, as well as band together as a team and compete in Democracy Cup. [emph mine]
The “volunteers” will come to a classroom and give 40 minute presentations.
The Portland Public School District has once again chosen up political sides. If it’s not counter military recruiters at jobs fairs it’s Occupy Portland in the classrooms and now the far left Bus Project.
Our kids can’t read, write and computer at grade level in large numbers, but it’s OK to waste their time having college aged activists extoll the virtues of leftist politics for 40 minutes at a time in our classrooms.
The Tea Party folks should demand training from Bus Project, flood the zone and get equal time.
