The MIT cop was the tip of the spear. He was ambushed, but the situation brings to mind, did MIT allow their cops to be armed?

“Subsection (j) prohibits carrying a weapon on the grounds of a school or university.”

According to Massachusetts state law NO GUNS ARE ALLOWED ON campus. Still looking for info on university police but it looks like they are not allowed to be armed.
