A caller says she called Gordon Smith’s office Thursday and was told he’s not coming back to Oregon until August (I’ll confirm this today). Do you blame him? He throws up the white flag on the war, votes to grant amnesty to illegal aliens, what’s next? WOULD YOU WANT TO COME HOME AND FACE THE MUSIC TO YOUR POLITICAL BASE?
While we know that Ron Wyden will suffer no ill effects from VOTING FOR AMNESTY in the latest Senate vote the same cannot be said of Gordon Smith, for now the only R in the group of NW Senators. He’s facing re election in 2008 and hopes to parlay his anti war vote into democrat voters.
Cantwell and Murray each voted IN FAVOR OF IMMEDIATE AMNESTY FOR ILLEGAL ALIENS ALSO.
The Vitter amendment would have stripped out the Z Visa program–the amnesty portion of the awful Senate Bill 1348.
DON’T FORGET TO CALL YOUR SENATORS TO SAY ‘NO’ TO AMNESTY! NO TO SENATE BILL 1348! AND USE THE OPEN BORDERS CROWD’S OWN PHONE NUMBERS THEY’VE PAID FOR TO GET A DIRECT LINE TO SENATORS:
(THANKS TO MICHELLE MALKIN)
If you are having trouble getting through the Capitol switchboard to express your opinion about the Bush-Kennedy shamnesty, there’s a special hotline number you might like to try.
1-800-882-2005. (Spanish number)
1-800-417-7666. (English number)
Who’s paying for these hotlines? Unbelievable. SEIU, George Soros, ACORN, the usual open borders fellas and their ilk. Malkin’s got the whole list here.

Americans for Better Immigration gives him a grade of D for his whole career in Congress, and C- for recent actions. See the record at:
In the Senate this week Sen. Wyden voted against an amendment that would have facilitated information sharing between federal and local law enforcement officials related to an individual’s immigration status. He also voted not to remove the amnesty provisions from the so-called “Comprehensive” bill.Ask him why he supports amnesty for 12-20 million illegal aliens. Tell him that attrition through enforcement of the immigration laws now on the books is the only fair an! d feasib le way to reduce the illegal population. Attrition through enforcement is effective and humane.A major amnesty was passed by Congress in 1986 while Wyden was serving in the House of Representatives. Senator Edward Kennedy, leading the push for the 1986 amnesty said: “This amnesty will give citizenship to only 1.1 to 1.3 million illegal aliens. We will secure the borders henceforth. We will never again bring forward another amnesty bill like this.”Why should we believe the promises of future enforcement, when the same people are now urging amnesty for over 12 million illegal aliens. The current proposal guarantees that the problem of illegal immigration will only grow exponentially as it did after the 1986 amnesty.http://grades.betterimmigration.com/testgrades.php3?District=OR&VIPID=667 You can click on the links to read the full voting record on which the grade is based.
