A report out of Denver claims 4 people have been arrested and an investigation launched into the possibility of an assasination plaot against Barack Obama when he accepts the party nomination.
The reporter, Brian Maass, writes that the people arrested had in their possession two high-powered, scoped rifles, camouflage clothing, walkie-talkies, wigs, a bulletproof vest, a spotting scope, licenses in the names of other people and 44 grams of methamphetamine.
When asked directly if the foursome had come to Denver to kill Obama, one suspect answered “in the affirmative.”
According to Police, the plot involved a 750 yard shot from high up in the stadium.
U.S. Attorney Troy Eid said, “We’re absolutely confident there is no credible threat to the candidate, the Democratic National Convention, or the people of Colorado,” with the matter still being investigated.
It is believed the men have ties to a biker gang, Sons of Silence, which has ties to white supremacists. One suspect who tried to escape capture out of a 6th floor window is reported to have a swastika tatoo.
Federal sources said this incident may have had more to do with methamphetamine than with any plot to assassinate Obama. Paul Bresson, an FBI spokesman assigned to the convention said, “This is a methamphetamine and firearms case that arose from a traffic stop made by an Aurora Police officer. Firearms and methamphetamine were seized and a number of individuals are in state custody. The matter continues to be under investigation.”
Another fed said, “It could also turn out that these were nothing but a bunch of knuckleheads, meth heads.”
Credible threat? Ambitious morons? Wishful thinking on the part of bigots?
Whatever the case may be, I for one am thankful it was discovered and broken up. I’d much rather defeat him in the ballot box than spark nationwide riots over an assasination.
