US News and World Report has a litany of moves and counter moves between the President and Fox News. For starters, it’s not just the Obamunists in the White House orchestrating the attack. In fact the President is in on all of it:

Fox ran a clip from NBC’s Savannah Guthrie’s interview with Obama (a clip that did not air on NBC Nightly News), in which she asked if it was “appropriate for the White House to say what is and is not a news organization,” noting his “advisers raised this issue.” President Obama replied, “Well, no. The — I think that what our advisers have simply said is, is that we are going to take media as it comes. And if media is operating basically as a talk radio format, then that’s one thing. And if it’s operating as a news outlet, then that’s another. But it’s not something I’m losing a lot of sleep over.”

Some critics are starting to emerge. From US News:

The Christian Science Monitor asks, “Has the Obama administration’s broadside against Fox News – claiming that it is not a news organization – chastened the network in the slightest? The behavior of Fox News personalities would suggest not.”
The Kansas City Star‘s Dave Helling said “the bicker-fest between the White House and Fox News is angering the cable TV organization’s conservative defenders — while confusing Obama supporters.” Fox News’ Special Report reported that Democratic strategist Bob Beckel said “what doesn’t make sense to him are the attacks on Fox News. Beckel says his own polling over the last two years…has found that 50 percent of the viewership of this channel consists of independents and Democrats.”

And SPJ still offers no comment on a President who uses all the powers at his disposal to go to war against a news organization.
Jay Leno had it right the other night when he cracked, “The president has ordered 40,000 new troops——-to do battle against Fox News.”
