"THIS is What [Occupy Portland’s] Democracy Looks Like"

Drive by #OPDX. The Stench Was Awful.

If a company had done this damage to a two block area in downtown Portland, bunny suited haz mat specialists would have descended and Main Justice would have rolled up the bad actors so fast it would have made the raid on Gibson Guitar pale by comparison.

But because Occupy Portland is made up of the Mayor’s (and the Schnitzer’s? See post nearby) base, they’ve been given a free pass. Free from liability, free from responsibility, free from guilt for having caused this outrageous destruction to public and private space.

Do you realize the City of Portland has  more than 60 cops over there making overtime wages who, among other things are–cleaning? I saw what appeared to be a half dozen “Occupiers” helping but mostly the cops were doing and directing most of the work.  Hey, wait a minute, didn’t the mayor calls this the most responsible and organized protest he’s ever seen (nothwithstanding all the unpermitted, hazmatted, rapist and molotov cocktailed illegality)?

Occupy Portland has devolved into a stench filled, brown field, haz mat site with piles of pallets, shields, junk, stolen shopping carts dotted around a two block area. There were at least 60 cops–some on horseback, some masked (and who can blame them??) who are slowly taking control of the squares. The parking on one side has been subsumed with police tape, a water bureau truck has blocked a lane. Gawkers are driving by on the lanes closest to this circus to see if they can get a quick sense of Occupy Crazy.

So, “This is What Democracy Looks Like” ? I’ve said it many times since the siege started and I’ll say it again: I feel sorry for the real true believers. You’ve been done wrong. But you invited these anarchist, socialist, communist, violent homeless, drugs addled rabble. You shouldn’t have let this happen. The Mayor gave you a pass. He never would have given the Tea Party the benefit of ALL this doubt.

This rodeo happened ACROSS THE STREET from CITY HALL. They KNEW what was going on but somehow believed the ANARCHISTS would be nice. The Mayor and the City Commissioners should never have let this happen.

This debacle is on them.

I’ll be out there later tonight. I’ll be wearing throwaway shoes, wearing a mask and cheering the cops.

I’m calling an attorney. I don’t like ’em much, unless I want somebody sued.

Schnitzers Among Those Giving Money to Occupy Portland?

Schnitzer Family Gave $$ to Occupiers?

We knew the communist party, socialist workers party, IWW–the Wobblies, the ATU, the AFL-CIO, and AFSCME were providing muscle and money for the Occupiers’ mayhem–but the Schnitzer family?

At 1:14 in this video by Laughing at Liberals, this Occupy Portland guy claims the Schnitzer Family Trust has given them $5,000.00.
That’s like King Louis XVI giving the murderous rabble of the French Revolution the money for the guillotine.

If there is a first family of Portland, the Schitzers would qualify. Schnitzer Steel is one of the top companies in Portland and does business around the world. When you go to a concert chances are you see it at “The Schnitz.” When you went to the Portland Art Museum gala, Portland’s art doyenne, Arlene Schnitzer, would be the one in the mink.

If this guy is telling the truth I have one thing to say to the Schnitzer family: Do you think that by paying what looks to be protection money that these rabble would treat you, your property or your wealth any differently than they’ve treated the CEO of Chase, than Bank of America, Wells Fargo, the people of the City of Portland and two city parks?   It also explains in part why the City had a mostly hands off attitude about encampment–till now–when it was too hard to hide this disaster any longer. It’s videos like this, I reckon, that are the reason for it:

As I was casting about on the internet this morning after seeing this video, I found an old article I wrote for BrainstormNW Magazine back in the day. The article serves as a pretty good backgrounder for why the City is as dysfunctional and corrupt as it is. Notable is the portion on dignity village. Enjoy it –or weep over it–here. I didn’t come up with the title of the piece, my editors did, but in hindsight it was pretty good.

Occupiers: Positive Action, Not Eviction

Since Mayor Sammy announced his deadline to Occupy PDX to disband, a petition has been launched opposing his action by the Working Families Party

Postive Action, Not Eviction!

The letter Mayor Sammy will receive says,

“As a member of the Portland community, I urge you to take a more constructive approach toward the Occupy Portland encampment than the inevitably conflictual eviction effort you have threatened. I want to stress that I do not speak for Occupy Portland but as part of the 99% I very much appreciate the megaphone Occupy Portland has given to the issues I and the rest of the 99% all care about.

I believe that those problems you worry about at the Occupy Portland encampment reflect the tremendous income disparity and lack of social services, mental health services, and affordable housing, that the Occupy Wall Street movement has so effectively brought to the fore.  Rather than sweep the encampment, homelessness, and income disparity out of sight once again, the City of Portland should adopt concrete measures to address some of those concerns.

There are many steps you and the City Council could take, concrete steps, not just rhetoric, that would show good faith.  I want to see positive action not eviction!

So, it’s our fault conditions down there have deteriorated as they have?

Thanks, Sammy.
