Louisiana: Bush did better on Katrina than Obama on Oil Spill

A recent poll taken in Louisiana by left-winged Public Policy Polling found,

“a majority of voters there think George W. Bush did a better job with Katrina than Obama’s done dealing with the spill.”

“50% of voters in the state, even including 31% of Democrats, give Bush higher marks on that question compared to 35% who pick Obama.”

Cornilles Giving Wu a Run for His Money in CD 1

H/T to Swingstate:

OR-01: Tis the season for internal polls, I guess: there’s also one floating around out there from Rob Cornilles, the little-known but NRCC-touted businessman running against Rep. David Wu in the Portland suburbs. The Cornilles poll, by local Republican pollster Moore Information, gives Wu a 46-40 lead over Cornilles, suggesting that Wu is at least in for a tougher-than-usual challenge even if he has the district’s D+7 lean working in his favor.

Dear Crime, er, Tri Met: From Steve-on-a-Cellphone-from-Tualatin

Dear Tri Met,
It’s bad enough that the recent opening of the 205/Green Line MAX has brought increased crime, more slashing of bus service, fair increases and endless subsidies for development plans that always go wrong, like every previous MAX line.

But Milwaukie Light Rail will bring all of that AND worsen every budget shortfall in sight.

Give TriMet your thoughts before they vote to approve their budget and proceed with the madness called Milwaukie Light Rail.

At their board meeting 9:00AM Wed the 23rd or e-mail them.

Why? Because it’s not funded. Every dime for this $1.4 Billion ($200 million/mile) boondoggle will be borrowed against future operating and basic services revenue at every level.

Kyron: School Super Carole Smith Please Come on My Show and Talk. Here’s My Number 503 225 0860. Ask for Eric.

These are some issues to discuss:
Explain how a child was snatched from the halls of a school and no one noticed.
How did a child’s absence go unnoticed for the entire school day?
The district has explained that there is no danger at Skyline Elementary to other children. How do you know this?
What other questions would YOU have, dear reader?

Pete the Banker: Red Ink Gushing from Fannie and Freddie

By Pete the Banker
The CBO in a report issued late last year estimated that the cost of the bailout of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac would approach $390 Billion over the next decade.  But the Administration has had expansive plans for the former GSE’s engulfing them in the extremely expensive Homeowner Affordable Modification Mortgage Program (HAMP) and pushing new CRA/Subprime like clone lending programs through Fannie, Freddie and the FHA, now accounting for 90% of the residential mortgage market.
From Investors Business Daily Cartoonist

Not surprisingly the worst case basis for the GSE’s bailout, something the Administration isn’t publicizing, is climbing and may approach $1 Trillion according to housing industry analysts (see Business Week story about it here). Yet despite the effusive eruption of red ink from the now effectively Federal Government owned entities, Congressional Reform is still months and perhaps years away.
