Israel/US to be "Annihilated Soon:" Ahmedinejad

I’m sure B-HO can talk him out of it. Wait, I can’t remember, is he still planning to talk to the Axis of Evil or.. I’m confused. See previous post. Here’s Joel Rosenberg’s report of what Ahmedinejad said:
Using some of his most apocalyptic rhetoric yet, Iranian leader Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is vowing that the United States and Israel will soon be “annihilated,” even as he refuses to abandon Iran’s nuclear program. Get Joel’s take here. Ambassador John Bolton’s take on B-HO’s foreign policy here.

Obama: Confused

I think the RNC has it just about right:

Today, Obama Claimed That He Would Be Open To Listening To Commanders On The Ground And What They Advised Regarding Withdrawal From Iraq:

Obama Told CNN’s Candy Crowley That He Was Open To “Facts And To Reason” With Regard To His Plan For Withdrawal From Iraq. Crowley: “You have said you want to go back to Iraq.” Obama: “Yeah.” Crowley: “See what the situation is on the ground. Is there nothing that they could show you or that General Petraeus could tell you that would move you from wanting to immediately begin removing U.S. troops?” Obama: “Well, you know, I never say there’s nothing or never or no way in which I’d change my mind. Obviously, I’m open to the facts and to reason. And there’s no doubt that we’ve seen si gnificant improvements in security on the ground in Iraq.” (CNN’s “The Situation Room,” 6/5/08)
But Previously, Obama Committed To Removing Troops From Iraq Regardless Of What Military Commanders Advised:

Obama Committed To Withdrawing Troops From Iraq Regardless Of The Advice He Received From Commanders On The Ground. ABC’s Charles Gibson: “And, Senator Obama, your campaign manager, David Plouffe, said, ‘When he is’ — this is talking about you – ‘When he is elected president, we will be out of Iraq in 16 months at the most. There should be no confusion about that.’ So you’d give the same rock-hard pledge, that no matter what the military commanders said, you would give the order to bring them home?” Obama: “Because the commander-in-chief sets the mission, Charlie. That’s not the role of the generals. And one of the things that’s been interesting ab out the president’s approach lately has been to say, ‘Well, I’m just taking cues from General Petraeus.’ Well, the president sets the mission. The general and our troops carry out that mission.” (Sen. Barack Obama, Democrat Presidential Candidate Debate, Philadelphia, PA, 4/16/08)

U of O Enviro Attorney Gets NATIONAL Media Attention

Thank you, national media (here) for outing this lady who would like to make up laws to hold the US government responsible for the entire earth’s atmosphere. Anything to make a buck, I guess.

Here’s her thesis from the Corvallis Gazette last week:

EUGENE — University of Oregon law professor Mary Wood is tired of waiting for
government officials to take action on global warming. So she’s devised a new
legal tool to hurry them up.Drawing on her background in both natural resources
and property law, Wood has developed a theory that claims the atmosphere is an
asset that belongs to all but is held in trust by the government. The government
has a legal obligation to protect that trust from harm, she argues, just as
financial managers have a legal obligation to protect the monetary assets in
their care.

But you and know what’s really going on here (story here):

We’ll take the last one first: Congress hasn’t written any statutes on
atmospheric obligation because, one, there has been no compelling reason to do
so, and, two, Congress simply does not have the constitutional authorization to
get involved in such matters. Wood is a lawyer; she should know that.
As for
that unfolding catastrophe, the only people who are seeing it are those whose
political goals rely on there being one and who have eagerly and gullibly bought
into the man-made global warming theory.
If Wood can find judges who will take her seriously, expect a plague of freewheeling lawsuits filed to force the government to shut down construction of new coal-fired power plants and airport expansions, limit motorized recreation and require the use of renewable energy, to name a few backward-looking thoughts that are filling her mind.

FOB-HO Tony Rezko: Guilty; Haditha Marine: Not Guilty

Jack Murtha pick up the Shame Spiral Apology White Courtesy Phone. Another Haditha Marine is found NOT GUILTY.
IRAQ: Haditha case dwindles with innocent verdict
Officer found not guilty over incident in Haditha
US Marine acquitted in Haditha killings
Barack Obama’s money man goes down on, what was it now? oh, yes, mail fraud, wire fraud, aiding and abetting bribery, and money-laundering. Required reading here and here.

Obama may have thought all of his interactions with Rezko were above-board,
but they weren’t. One of the counts against Rezko detailed how he funneled the
proceeds of an illegal kickback scheme into Obama’s 2004 Senate campaign.
Rezko’s co-conspirator, a former trustee of the Illinois Teachers Retirement
System (TRS) named Stuart Levine, told the jury that he directed the TRS to
invest $50 million with a firm called Glencoe Capital. In exchange, Levine
arranged for himself and Rezko to be paid a fraudulent $500,000 “finder’s fee.”
Levine routed Rezko’s half to an associate named Joseph Aramanda in March of
2004. That month, Aramanda wrote a $10,000 check to Barack Obama’s campaign.
Of course, Obama may well not have known the details of such a shadowy
transaction, and his campaign has donated that $10,000 — and all other
Rezko-related money — to charity. But what became clear over the course of the
Rezko trial is that this kind of scheme exemplified Rezko’s way of doing
business. It’s hard to believe that Obama could be so clueless about Rezko’s
character, just as it’s hard to believe that Obama sat in Jeremiah Wright’s pews
for 20 years and had no idea that the man was a radical black nationalist.
