The left has been angered as much as I’ve been surprised by the newspaper of record, The Zero’s, opinions recently on Measures 66 & 67. The Zero has come out against it, noting its job killing effects:

Instead, the Democrats buried kicker reform and chose to fill a large hole in the budget by tacking more onto Oregon’s already high personal income taxes — exacerbating the top-heavy volatility of the state’s tax system. The self-described progressives in the House caucus further insisted that income tax increases on wealthier Oregonians — mostly business owners and professionals, otherwise known as employers — be permanent, not levied just long enough to get the state through its budget crisis.

But the Liberatti has the Volvo and Subaru crowd calling the Zero to complain that it’s not foursquare in support of this huge tax increase. The Oregonian responded over the weekend with an Op Ed by the publisher. The publisher claimed it wasn’t his fault and that the editorial board does what it wants.

 From my viewpoint, the editorial position of The Oregonian is not utterly predictable. But for the most part it leans toward what I think of as liberal views. Even then, it’s interesting to see how many people get upset if The Oregonian doesn’t follow their leanings precisely. When Friday’s editorial on the Supreme Court ruling on political contributions did not denounce the ruling, we heard from some callers who were most upset. And they were certain the “right-wing nut publisher” — that’s me — ordered it.
As for whether I’m a right-wing nut, everyone will have his or her opinion. (I’m not, by the way.)

Phew, we were worried he was a “right wing nut.” Apparently if you’re right of center you’re often confused with “nuttiness.” More later.
