Unbelievable as it may seem, Patriots and Veterans who fly the American Flag outside their homes have been faced with foreclosure proceedings for refusing to remove flagpoles they fly the flag from.
Past cases are here and here. A current ongoing case in Clermont, Florida is here.
In 1989, the Supreme Court declared desecrating our flag a protected right under First Amendment Freedom of Expression and Protest.
In 2006, the House and Senate passed the “Freedom to Display the American Flag Act of 2005.” It was signed into law by President Bush. But, inside it says under Limitations, “Nothing in this Act shall be considered to permit any display or use that is inconsistent with — (2) any reasonable restriction pertaining to the time, place, or manner of displaying the flag of the United States necessary to protect a substantial interest of the condominium association, cooperative association, or residential real estate management association.”
What other country protects desecration and destruction of their National Flag, while restricting Veterans and Patriots who honor that flag from honoring it?
