Oregon pot store owners are doing some serious verbal gymnastics to devise language that will keep the feds at bay. As we told you (here) the feds have issued a throw down to “medical marijuana” pot stores: You’re illegal and we’re coming after you.
We sent our producer out to a new Gladstone pot store the other day to get reaction to the coming federal crackdown and he told us that his business plan
included GIVING AWAY dope. That’s right: he gives it away and marijuana growers just GIVE HIM dope. We don’t have a clue how he plans to keep the (grow) lights on, but he really believes the $10.00 “club” fee to come into his “clinic” where people get their “free medicine” will give him enough of a veneer so the feds leave him alone.
And then there’s THIS story from KATU.
During a Friday at a strip mall on Southeast 82nd, Oregon medical marijuana patients went into an office and came out with paper bags containing jars of pot.
Medical marijuana patients who use the facility say it’s not a dispensary. It’s a farmers market. They make a donation and for that donation they are given a playing card. They then give the playing card to a medical marijuana grower. They may get a jar of medical marijuana or not. There is no quid pro quo – no guarantee they will get marijuana for their money.
For that reason users and operators say they do not believe they are violating laws because they are not actually buying or selling pot.
Apparently they’re taking their verbal cues from this story in Seattle.
Plus, you get to smoke up at the “medical marijuana” stores dispensaries restaurants clinicsfarmer’s markets pot stores but Oregon legislators have cracked down on hookah bars.
Uh, okaaaaaay…
