What is He Protesting? He Has No Idea. Zip.

I’ve made the case time and again beginning with just days after Occupy Portland converged upon (and began ruining) two Portland parks that Occupy Portland is the same old gang with a new name. See posts here,  here,  here,  and a partial list here.

Nothing has made me change my mind.

As I said in my post, “Occupy Portland: It’s Over:”

They went to their natural allies—the unionists, socialists, anti Jewish-Pro Palestinian activists, communists and anarchists among others—and invited them.

But what’s been obvious to me (and some Occupy folks) but still eludes the nation’s consciousness, I think, is this: these people have no idea what they’re protesting because they’re protesting EVERYthing.

This comment in the Seattle Times distills what Occupy Portland’s problem is,

When protesting just for the sake of protesting, your message gets lost. (April 16, 2012, by Forecast Calls 4 Sarcasm

Here’s a list of the things Occupy either has done or plans to do and see if you don’t agree that, besides being astro turf for unions, it’s hard to pick out a discernible message. You’ll need to keep score to keep it all straight.

  • Tax Day Protest (no, it will not fete the 51% who pay all federal income taxes)
  • Bake Sale for government unions at Portland City Hall.
  • Ride Tri Met to support government transit workers union members
  • Save the Post Office Rally
  • Hanging with anti nuke queen Helen Caldicott at Hanford Nuclear reservation waggling plastic fish and blowing bubbles at people (no, I’m not kidding).
  • Protesting court hearing against Wiki Leaker PFC Bradley Manning.
  • Rallying for Dignity Village Deux for Ibrahim Mubarak (the racist anti Tea Party agitator)
  • Shutting Down the Ports to support Longview’s Longshoremen’s Union.
  • Protesting the group ALEC.
  • Planning for May Day protests.
  • Anti GMO workshops
  • Plotting Re Occupying a space in Portland.
  • Overshopping on N17
  • Day of Rage (against the man, apparently)
  • Open Oswego Lake
  • Grow Your Own Food
  • Killing Corporate Zombie
    “Killing” Corporate Zombies
Occupy Portland is in meetings now to plot more public space take overs and their ardently wished-for May Day protests. They will mean nothing.

I feel genuinely sorry for the few newbies who have joined this motley crew hoping for change. Sadly, you have become the Lisa Fithian inspired useful idiots that comprise, “Portland’s Professional Protester Class.”
