Portland Mayor Sam Adams Worries of Marauding Bands of Tie-Wearing GOP-ers in Concern Over Debate

This is the same as
This.

Portland Mayor Sam Adams is a confused man. He doesn’t want the GOP Presidential debate here in March and is tying himself in knots trying to sound reasonable in opposing it.

He’s not succeeding. Judge for yourself by listening to my conservation with him yesterday morning. The link is

here.

Adams apparently doesn’t know that the Oregon Republican Party, the government radio people and others have been talking for months with Portland Police about security and logistics for a Republican Presidential debate in March. He claimed on the air yesterday morning that no one had talked to him about this big debate. Never mind the fact that it was in all the papers, but, Dude, you’re the Police Commissioner, it’s not GOP Chair Allen Alley’s fault your chief didn’t bring you into the loop.

But what of it? As former Multnomah County Sheriff Bernie Giusto told me on the air yesterday they don’t close down highways for Presidential candidates–especially this early in the process–anyway. It will cost something for cops, but not that much.

Adams also appears to be afraid that a marauding bunch of tie-wearing Republicans and their Tea Party friends will somehow bring their “Taxed Enough Already!” signs and create mayhem on Macadam.

Utter nonsense.

What’s clear is that Sam Adams just doesn’t want the Republican Presidential Debate in Portland at government TV/radio HQ on Macadam because his base is calling and whining about it.

And his pretext for being opposed to the debate is fiscal: It. Will. Just. Cost. Too. Much.

For those of you out of towners reading this you might think something like, “Gosh, it’s so nice to have a Mayor who is in tune with the hard times suffered by his constituents!”

For you in-towners you know what a bag of dung THAT is.

This mayor just laid out his legislative priorities for his lobbyist in Salem. The Mayor’s top priority is building a $62 million “sustainable” building to house city workers, favored environmental friends and who knows who else? The city already has office space. It will cost a 150% premium for the city to rent there, but hey, what’s a few extra bucks? They’ll have to reroute light rail through the building (proving that when there’s light at the end of the tunnel no one’s home) costing millions.

Adams and his cronies have just plundered the water and sewer budgets to:

  1. Build more bike paths
  2. Build a “water” house demonstration project costing $700,000.00.
  3. Give the Rose Festival a water front building for $1/year after using city employees to spruce it up.
  4. Buy forest land.

The inanity and waste go on and on. Did I ever tell you the one about the Tram? That sculpture to honor the anarchist zoo bombers was a real knee slapper wasn’t it?

But the granddaddy of ’em all is the lack of judgment that governed Sam Adams over Occupy Portland. Millions were spent in allowing these bums to pee and poop and destroy two downtown parks, millions and millions more will be spent to rectify all the police overtime and prosecutions, uncountable dollars were lost allowing these Occupiers to rampage the streets closing down banks and small businesses. The list goes on. Please see this index of my posts (HERE) about the Occupation. Or search this blog. I just can’t list them all here because I’ve got to finish this post before I go on the air at eleven and it’s 5:30am. Time’s a wastin’.

Suffice it to say the “occupy” people are Sam Adams’ base. He marched with them, ignored their health, safety, and code violations and gave them carte blanche for 39 days. We paid overtime etc etc for the park people. The parks are shot. They’re out of commission for a year. The point is he let them do it. He could look out the window at City Hall, eat his ham sandwich and see for himself but chose to ignore the problems, gave countless fawning interviews with the Occupy people and simply ignored the problems. He even offered to take over PR for them because they were doing such a bad job of it. Oy.

The parks now have a deficit. The parks commissioner, Nick Fish, is now talking about closing restrooms in parks because he doesn’t have enough money to keep them open. Kept them open for the Occupiers to ruin, though, didn’t he?

The Portland Police Bureau is slated to lose 50 some officers because of budget constraints–but we’ve got enough money to build a $62 million dollar building no one needs and pay 150% increases in rent.  But we can’t allow the GOP debate to be here. You get the picture.

Please listen here to my conservation with Mayor Adams yesterday morning. As you listen, ask yourself:

  • Do facts matter to him?
  • Does he think we’re dumb enough to believe his spin?
  • Has he ever had to construct a simple logical syllogism?
  • Does he really believe he’s the smartest guy in the room? If so, how did he ever come to believe it?
  • How come no one has ever heard of the debate he claims to have turned down?
  • Why do you host a Democrat Presidential debate when there’s only one candidate?

And then think about this: he’s afraid that the Occupiers –who have already formed a facebook group to organize a march against the debate will create problems for him on a national stage. Sam, frankly, Portland couldn’t look any worse.
