Oregon Mexican Swine Flu Schizophrenia: Western Oregon University CLOSED; Thousands (?) of Mexico Citizens Rally in Salem & PDX

When Eric the Great (producer of the Victoria Taft Show heard 5-8pm on KPAM 860) called Governor Kulo’s office yesterday to ask about swine flu, he was met with a dismissive and rude attitude by a “communications” clerk. I guess it was because Eric asked the question that dare not be asked, namely,
“Will the Governor consider calling off the May Day protest at the capitol due to swine flu concerns?” Considering that the yearly protest rally in which students are bused in from Woodburn and Mexican nationals and citizens of other Latin American countries collect on the steps en mass, we figured there might be a wee bit of concern that the MEXICAN SWINE FLU virus might easily be passed along. Uh, no. However, mere moments after we called, the Governor dispatched a helpful statement saying he would do everything in his power to stop the spread of the disease…yada, yada… Everything, it seems, except do the politically incorrect thing and call off a rally of illegal aliens from Mexico.
We asked the acting state epidemiologist on the show yesterday afternoon if she were concerned about the large collection of people from Mexico swapping germs in close quarters and she said it’s a little safer outside, but if there are any [illegal aliens] going to the event who are sick they should stay home. We think they should stay home until they’re citizens, too, but that’s another matter.
Last night, however, the concern about MEXICAN SWINE FLU was enough to prompt the Health Department and head of W
ESTERN OREGON UNIVERSITY to SHUT DOWN CAMPUS until May 4th.

Western Oregon University is closing campus this evening, Thursday, April 30th through Monday, May 4th, based on recommendations from the Oregon Health Dept. A probable case of the H1N1 virus (swine flu) has been found on campus. For updates or more information, go to www.wou.edu or call closure line 503-838-8026.

Color us confused. If this disease is not enough of a concern to close down the collection of illegal aliens from Mexico on the capitol steps, then why is it of such a great concern to close down WOU campus? There’s only ONE possible case on campus, isn’t there? What do you think the odds are of there being one possible case of swine flu on the capitol steps and in Portland today? I’d say the odds are very good. Maybe the illegal aliens will do the right thing, however, and, if they feel sick, they’ll stay home because it’s the right thing to do. Oh, wait.
You know, if I were a professional protester from SEIU and the other unions who get paid for these gigs, I’d ask for time and a half.
