Today Mary Volm announced she would not be taking public financing for her city council run to oust Dan Saltzman. Volm, who was a key operator in the first Recall Sam Adams effort, says money and signatures to qualify for “Voter Owned Election” dollars were slow in coming and she wasn’t going to make the deadline.

“I have had a remarkable time talking with Portland business owners, residents and other
elected officials which will continue, “ Volm comments. “In fact, I so enjoyed hearing
Portlanders concerns, I would often spend up to an hour for just one signature. I don’t regret
that one bit.”

in 2006 Erik Sten and the rest of the council forced taxpayers into paying for the campaigns of elected officials. Sten then magnimously allowed us to vote on this piece of kapok in 2010. It’s 2010 and I want my money back. The city was ripped off by one candidate and the system was gamed by another. It’s a mess and we shouldn’t have to pay for someone’s campaign. Period.
That said, I know Mary will have some more difficulty  collecting money for a council run. She deserves a chance to have her voice heard on council. She stood up for what’s right when it counted. She’s got 20 years of city hall experience and she doesn’t like mayors who lie, cheat and steal. She’s a liberal but I highly respect her principled stand against pederast Sam Adams.
Oh, and she doesn’t think “Trees have rights,” either.
