Libs Pull Up Chairs & Eat Popcorn While Watching Oregon GOP Drama

It looks like the Oregon Republican Party has taken a hard line with delegates to the national convention and has replaced them with people who like Mitt Romney a little better.

According to the Daily Kos (!) quoting a previously unknown group called “The Oregon Republican Delegation,” the GOP Chief Allen Alley has replaced delegates to the national convention who were a bit luke warm about Mitt Romney. Efforts to contact Alley Saturday night weren’t successful.

This is what is purported to be a news release from this group.

Here’s an excerpt:

SALEM, Ore. – Oregon Republican Party (ORP) Executive Committee members gathered for a secret meeting in Eugene Saturday, June 30 in an ultra vires attempt to appoint replacements for the state’s duly elected alternate delegates. This meeting came exactly one week after the ORP

Congressional District (CD) Conventions elected delegates, alternate delegates, presidential electors, and district officers. Executive committee friends and family received the illegitimate appointments – some without even filing for the office – and duly elected alternate delegates received a conciliatory letter from ORP Chairman Allen Alley on their “unsuccessful” election.

“It’s clear Alley and ORP leadership are not happy with the delegation election results,” said Tom Armstrong, PCP and House District Captain. “They wanted their family, friends, and ‘good old boys’ seated on the delegation and they’re willing to break every rule and bylaw to make that happen.” Armstrong’s outrage is shared by those whose vote was unduly dismissed and whose voting rights were violated.

In a letter sent to all duly elected alternate delegates July 5, Alley stated, “If you are receiving this letter, you have not been elected as a Delegate or Alternate Delegate to the Oregon Delegation for the Republican National Convention in Tampa, FL. Thank you so much for your service to our Party.” [1]

An email tonight to Allen Alley to comment on this news release and this group hasn’t been returned yet, but I expect he will.

It sounds like some more Ron Paul-esque machinations from this new group.
