| Presidential Candidate Herman Cain |
Presidential candidate Herman Cain easily took the straw poll at The Gathering of Eagles near Turner, Oregon on Saturday. Cain brought his rhetorical tour de force to the event, wooing the Oregon conservative activists. He took questions on every major issue from the Afghanistan war, to the S&P downgrade education and everything in between.
More than one thousand patriots gathered at the spacious ranch of Ames and Dama Curtright for the fifth annual gathering. This was easily the largest event with more than 1000 people attending this year. It’s the fifth year the successful businessman and candidate for Governor and his wife have hosted this event. Last year’s Gathering of Eagles featured Todd Palin, former “First Dude” of Alaska and husband of former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin.

Cain’s candidacy relies upon convincing voters that a America needs a CEO to guide it. Cain is a former CEO of Godfather’s Pizza and is the author of several books. His main thrust is, “you’ve got to ask the right questions to figure out what the problem is before you can solve it,” something he believes President Obama has shown he was woefully unprepared for. He says his outsider a status is a strength he brings to
Cain began his day at a special breakfast, book signing, photo event and then addressed the larger gathering three separate times beginning with a long Q & A session, keynote address and when he acknowledged winning the straw poll. The Presidential candidate was quite generous with his time.
Cain took pains to drive home that his is not a vanity candidacy. He says he’s running for his kids and grand kids and the future of his country.
After the straw poll results were announced, Cain recited some of this poem to sum up his tenacity and the seriousness of his cause:
If you think you dare not, you don’t.
If you like to win, but you think you can’t,
It is almost certain you won’t.
If you think you’ll lose, you’re lost,
For out in the world we find,
Success begins with a fellow’s will.
It’s all in the state of mind.
If you think you are outclassed, you are,
You’ve got to think high to rise,
You’ve got to be sure of yourself before
You can ever win a prize.
Life’s battles don’t always go
To the stronger or faster man.
But soon or late the man who wins,
Is the man who thinks he can.
Cain brought the crowd to its feet when he closed, “I KNOW I CAN WIN!”
