Teachers Raises “For the Children” Oregonian Photo

There’s no school today in the Gresham Barlow School District classrooms because there’s yet no agreement to totally capitulate to the union “For the Children.”

“The Children’s” teachers already make well above the average Oregon teacher’s salary at $61,000/year. Add the bennies and Gresham Barlow teachers are making more than 
$92,000 on average–for “The Children” of course. That’s roughly $500/day. But that’s not enough and

 that’s why there’s no school today.

Substitutes are being readied to start Monday but the teachers union has made phone calls threatening them not to cross the picket line.  hear the phone message and see my post about that here. It’s all for “The Children,” you know.

“The Children” will have five fewer days in the classroom next year already.

Yesterday the Zero obliged the teachers union by covering their “for the children” session, replete with appropriately red tee shirts (undoubtedly provided by the union).reportedly provided by parents.

Points of contention: Teachers want to throw out disruptive kids from their classrooms and the Administration wants to be able to throw crappy teachers from the classroom.

Matching Tee Shirts Provided by–the union?

The District says one late start day per month and an uninterrupted period per day to plan is enough and the Teachers want to double the number of late starts.

But, let’s face it, when the teachers union says it’s about “The Children” it’s really about the money. Always is.
