We’ve talked of this in a humorous way for quite sometime, but it appears the Portland cop shop and Randy Leonard, an OG of the Rainbow City Council, may be setting the stage for doing something almost this stupid.
The city has put out a request for proposal—a $250,000.00 contract—to help rehabilitate hookers.
Now I think rehabilitating ne’er do wells is a nice thing, however, this ain’t the job of the city. The city’s job is to enforce the law and leave all the mental, physical expenditures up to the county. Randy Leonard thinks feeling the pain of the hookers–understanding them–will extinguish the problem. Randy, there’s a reason why they call it the world’s oldest profession. Even Jesus, hanging out with the ho’s and money changers, told them to go and sin no more and take their punishment and we still have hookers.
People who live on and around 82nd Avenue report having hookers, pimps and johns doing their thing IN FRONT OF THEIR HOUSES, behind bushes IN THEIR YARDS, and can’t even allow their children out DURING THE DAY, much less at night. They don’t want to give these folks more understanding, they want to show them the inside of a jail cell.
When the city fails to follow the law, such as in the case of the day labor center for illegal aliens and now this, it diminishes the community’s respect for the law and the respect they may have the leadership around here.
Just do your jobs, for cryin’ out loud. Enforce the law!
