The Audubon Society wants us to consider them simply a part of the “urban landscape,” but I think you might have trouble convincing the home owners who have lost their cats and small dogs that we should accept coyotes into the fold.
Sure coyotes have been around these parts for awhile, but that doesn’t mean we should encourage their proliferation. And it also doesn’t mean the cities and counties around here should do nothing.
Coyotes are seen frequently in NE Portland in the Alameda district and NW Portland. Apparently some genius left Greek takeout for the critters to eat. What, no rib eye red carpet?
These creatures can cause havoc of all kinds. You need only read the latest here about a coyote who SNUCK INTO A HOME IN BATTLEGROUND.
“She woke me up and said, ‘Something’s in our house,’” Bill Biscoe said.

The Biscoes walked carefully to their family room and spotted the coyote there.

“It just started pooping and peeing and knocking things over,” Bill Biscoe said. “It was panicked. It was scared to death.”
