Amazing isn’t it? As tea Party influence grows, Democrats can’t seem to make up their minds whether to demonize or embrace the Tea party. Now, former president, Jimmy Carter has come out saying he “sees parallels between today’s tea party and his own campaign for the White House in 1976.”
Carter says, “[I] rode a wave of voter discontent to the presidency on the heels of the Vietnam War and the Watergate scandal that felled President Richard Nixon, much like tea party conservatives are now earning support by voicing anger at the nation’s economic woes.”
Carter goes on to say “the tea party’s momentum will likely wear off and they will be co-opted by the Republican Party.”
With him seeing parallels, he might be correct. After all, he wasn’t enough of an influence to be reelected in 1980 and has gone down in history as the worst president in American history.
