“All across the country, a small group of radical right-wingers are intent on disrupting congressional town hall meetings in an all-out effort to stop real health care reform. We need your help now to make sure our voices are heard over the unruly mob.

Your member of Congress, Rep. David Wu, is holding a series of events this week, and we need you to attend one of them, along with your friends, family and co-workers if possible. Please help counteract the right-wing fringe opponents of health care reform, aka the mob, who according to their internal planning documents*** are planning to “stand up and shout and sit right back down” and “yell out and challenge the Rep’s statements early” in an attempt to “rattle” them and disrupt the events.

More than 75 percent of America’s workers support President Obama’s plan for real health care reform, and we cannot allow a small band of angry zealots to disrupt these meetings and stop reform.

Here are the details on your local events:

Town Hall Topic: Rep. David Wu Health Care Town Hall
When: Tuesday, August 11, 12:00 p.m.
Where: Good Samaritan Hospital, Portland, OR 97210

Town Hall Topic: Rep. David Wu Health Care Town Hall
When: Thursday, August 13, 4:00 p.m.
Where: Seaside Public Library, Seaside, OR 97138

Town Hall Topic: Rep. David Wu Health Care Town Hall
When: Friday, August 14, 4:00 p.m.
Where: Columbia Learning Center, St. Helens, OR 97051

After your meeting, please e-mail us at mlaitin@aflcio.org with information on what happened. If you have a chance to speak with your member of Congress, below are a few talking points

[I took some of them out for brevity’s sake] you might find helpful. But personal stories are often the most powerful way to communicate the need for reform, so feel free to tell your own story.

  • Will you side with health insurers and vote for legislation that continues their control over health care in America, or vote for reform that puts patients and their doctors in charge of their health care?

Thank you for your support,

Marc Laitin
AFL-CIO Online Mobilization Coordinator”

**Those “Internal Planning Documents” were a memo by JSG in Connecticut. Smart guy, too. Had him on the air on Monday, but, “Internal Planning Documents?” You guys are so desperate that you’re laugh out loud funny.
