Posey, a graduate of Wichita State University, later expanded into the paving business, which has brought him a bit more success but continued frustration. “There’ll never be a minority-owned firm the size of Walsh Construction in this town until the opportunities are equal,” says the 58-year-old candidate, who runs a deli on the corner of Northeast Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Stanton Street, in addition to owning a small construction firm. (Posey also has been on the other side of the law. He says that about 10 years ago he was convicted of menacing an ex-employee whom he caught trying to break into his house.)

My favorite James Posey quote was given to the WWeek after Portland School Board member Derry Jackson infamously said in 2001, “I see the Jews running everything … Today they run the country.”  So in response, the WWeek gathered a bunch of NoPo activists to get their reaction. Here is what James Posey had to say:
 
“I can’t speak for all blacks…but black people can’t afford to hate Jews. People who want to denigrate Jews are the same people who want to kill all the black people…. The most violently talked-about individual is Farrakhan. Even he pales against the white supremacists that are trying to kill off the notion of Jews…. So let’s put this in perspective, we’re on the same team.
