Wu’s Secret Life as a "Furry?" Speculation Abounds. Head Furry Has Doubts.

Silly me, I just thought the guy was really going to a Halloween party, even though I believed it a dumb costume.
But who goes to an enclosed space with a bunch of other people and wears a costume that’s going to be as hot as blazes? Wu’s staff demanded he not be seen in his costume. Why so vociferous? Why did Wu go so overboard in calling this costume picture unprofessional on his appearance on GMA this morning? (see video below)

Of course his staff didn’t want him to be seen in a costume. We’ve seen where politicos have been seen in goofy costumes: John Kerry in the bunny suit at NASA, Michael Dukakis in the tank, but this appearance on GMA where he keeps droning on about the costume seems out of kilter with its import. How come “joshing” with your kids is “unprofessional?” How silly a word to continually use to “apologize” for his behavior!

Alas, my listeners inform me, I’m naive.

Callers to the program today alerted me to another possibility: Wu might be a “Furry” or “Plushie.” This is a subculture of people who love dressing up in costumes for anything as benign as Halloween parties to sexcappade-filled “fur pile!” conventions. Yes, conventions. Gack. Here.
We asked the head of the Furry Convention called”AnthroCon,”  (no, we’re not making this up) what he thinks of Wu’s possible participation in the “community:”
“I do not suspect that Congressman Wu is a Furry, although it would be interesting to count one of the nation’s lawmakers among the ranks of our community. I was under the impression that the photograph was taken on or about Halloween and that the tiger costume in question was intended as part of the usual festivities. If a photograph of a person in a Halloween costume is a sign of mental instability then I’m afraid we shall have to institutionalize a large percentage of Facebook users.”

Wu may have railed against faux Klingons but this faux congressman should go. Fur or no fur.
