With Near Double Digit Unemployment, How Can Clark County Say ‘No’ to These Jobs?

Clark County’s fortunes appear to be looking up these days. It’s 9.9% unemployment rate is a far cry better than the 13.1% at this time last year, but is it so much better that County Commissioners can turn their noses up at new jobs?
When regulation gets in the way of good jobs you’ve got to wonder if these elected folks care more about rules and regs and less about jobs for their constituents.

Location Area

This brings me to the story of the ridiculous fees Clark County is attempting to charge the owners of Chuck’s Produce. This organic produce market/granola type store would be a 39,000 sq ft presence in Salmon Creek to complement its store in Vancouver. The hitch? As the owner told me on the air the other day the county wants $800,000.00 to $1,000,000.00 for a traffic impact study.

Bart Colson told me he will not build the store with this ridiculous fee. That’s 93 full time times and who knows how many construction jobs.

South View

What a huge blockade to jobs in Clark County. No WONDER job growth sucks there. If you were a business would you want to expand while paying these outrageous fees?

And Lew sends these location photos of the new proposed location of Chuck’s. This is already a very busy area. What traffic impact will this farmer’s market like store increase?
