Ron Silver. RIP. He Knew What Time it Was.

I wish his voice were still being heard in Hollywood. In 2004 he addressed the Republican National Convention in support of President Bush. He put country above petty partisanship. Good for him. I wish there were more like him. He died today of cancer.

Even though I am a well-recognized liberal on many issues confronting our society today, I find it ironic that many human rights advocates and outspoken members of my own entertainment community are often on the front lines to protest repression, for which I applaud them but they are usually the first ones to oppose any use of force to take care of these horrors that they
catalogue repeatedly.

Under the unwavering leadership of President Bush, the cause of freedom and democracy is being advanced by the courageous men and women serving in our Armed Services.

The President is doing exactly the right thing.

That is why we need this President at this time!

I am grateful for the chance to speak tonight to express my support for our Commander-in-Chief, for our brave troops, and for the vital cause which they have undertaken.

  1. May he rest in peace.

Unlike so many others, he saw what was right and got behind it.

With the current power in D.C., I pray that once again it will not have all been in vain.

  2. Ron Silver was a class act. This from Paul Begala:

“I was as passionately opposed to the war in Iraq as Ron was supportive of it; I was as appalled by the Bush presidency as he was enthralled by it, and yet he never questioned my patriotism, my support for the troops or my commitment to confronting terrorism. Just because someone had a different opinion, that did not make him a bad person in Ron’s eyes.”

“As a fan of his movies and television roles, I will miss his acting. But as a political hyperbolist who sometimes goes too far, I will miss his civility even more.”

  3. It sounds as if appreciating the civil and classy way in which Silver expressed himself goes across party and idealogical lines.

    RIP, Mr. Silver.

  4. .
God bless Ron Silver, he was a ‘Liberal’ who came to his senses about Jihadis and brutal Dictators. He knew they would destroy America, and Hollywood if they could. He realized that if America goes down the tubes, then the whole planet is doomed.

You were great Ron! Time Cop, Arrival, Wiseguy, and The West Wing among many were particularly good. Thank you for everything, especially your courage, RIP.
    here’s an absurd thought –
    our God of the Universe
    hates ALL Liberals

    who admit their errors
    and move Right on defense

    absurd thought –
    God of the Universe hates
    the principles of FREEDOM

    fascism comes from the Right
that is a lie of the Left

    absurd thought –
    God of the Universe says

    because you hate dictators
    and don’t blame America
All real freedom starts with freedom of speech. Without freedom of speech there can be no real freedom.
