After Wisconsin’s legislature succeeded in passing their ‘budget repair bill,’ Governor, Scott Walker has rescinded some 1,500 lay-off notices that had been sent out to state union workers in the state. Rescinding the notices, Governor Walker issued a notice saying,

“The Legislature helped us save 1,500 middle-class jobs by moving forward this week with the budget repair. The state will now be able to realize $30 million in savings to balance the budget and allow 1,500 state employees to keep their jobs. The reforms contained in this legislation, which require modest health care and pension contributions from all public employees, will help put Wisconsin on a path to fiscal sustainability.”

“While tough budget choices certainly still lie ahead, both state and local units of government will not have to do any mass layoffs or direct service reductions because of the reforms contained in the budget repair bill. Moving forward the hardworking, professional public sector employees who show up to work every day and do an excellent job will help ensure Wisconsin has a business climate that allows the private sector to create 250,000 new jobs.”

For weeks now we have heard how “anti-union,” “mean-spirited,” “cold hearted” Governor Walker is, adding rhetoric to rhetoric against the Governor and the newly elected Republican legislature majority.

Instead of expressing any thanks now that 1,500 public union members will get to keep their jobs during these dismal economic times of high unemployment, Mike Tate, the leader of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin who preferred to see those 1,500 left jobless said, “From a policy perspective, this is terrible. But from a political perspective, he could not have handed us a bigger gift,” as minority Democrats in the state wish to recall those who managed to save these jobs, presumably to reinstall Democrats who would have gladly added the 1,500 to the ranks of unemployed.

Before the lay-off notices were rescinded, far leftist Democrat support group Moveon.org sent out an email blast condemning measure taken that ended up saving 1,500 union jobs. Lenore Palladino’s email said,

“Last night, Wisconsin Republicans rammed through their attack on workers’ rights in a shameful—and probably illegal—power grab.”

“Wisconsin progressives surrounded the capital last night and are mounting more protests today. To support them—and to oppose Republicans in Congress who are pushing similar attacks on all of our communities—we’ve launched a huge ‘Defend the Dream’ day of action next Tuesday.”

I fail to see how saving jobs is an “assault on workers’ rights.”

Earlier, Moveon’s Daniel Mintz sent out his email blast saying,

“Minutes ago, Wisconsin Republicans made a shocking power grab—ramming through their partisan attack on workers’ rights without a single Democrat present.

It’s shameful, unprecedented, and probably illegal. We can’t let them get away with this.

We have to recall the Republican state senators who did this.

Progressives in Wisconsin have already gathered thousands of signatures to do just that, but they need our help to get the job done. Let’s send a clear message that trying to destroy the American Dream is a surefire way to get booted from office.”

So, to leftist Democrats, saving jobs during high unemployment is “destroying the American Dream?” I never thought standing in the unemployment line, or soup lines, was how Democrats envisioned the “American Dream.”

And, no Democrats present? Have they somehow conveniently forgotten that was the choice of Democrats, to flee the state and refuse to return to vote?

Governor Walker laid out the what and why of the struggle in a recent op-ed submitted to the Wall Street Journal, Why I’m Fighting in Wisconsin where he stated, “We can avoid mass teacher layoffs and reward our best performers.” And now, he has delivered by rescinding the pending lay-offs.

In an expression of just how much saving jobs in Wisconsin is appreciated, Republican lawmakers were sent a threatening notice claiming,

“Please put your things in order because you will be killed and your familes will also be killed due to your actions in the last 8 weeks. Please explain to them that this is because if we get rid of you and your families then it will save the rights of 300,000 people and also be able to close the deficit that you have created. I hope you have a good time in hell. Read below for more information on possible scenarios in which you will die.” (rest of email at link)

Those “rights of 300,000” mentioned amount to some of the most ridiculous “collective bargaining” points I have seen, as we see HERE.

Wisconsin Democrats, crying foul over the prospect of jobs having been saved, vow to continue fighting through lawsuits, protests and recall efforts and presumably, to see unemployment remain high.

Noted economist Thomas Sowell informs us in his recent article Union Myths, “The most fundamental fact about labor unions is that they do not create any wealth. They are one of a growing number of institutions which specialize in siphoning off wealth created by others, whether those others are businesses or the taxpayers.”

What better example of that exists than seeing Democrats objecting to saving middle class union jobs?

You just have to wonder, who’s side are Democrats actually on?

Surely not middle class America.
