Here’s the nut ‘graf:

The bond of trust and confidence has been broken. Adams has previously stated his hope that gay and lesbian youth might one day look to him as a role model and example. His own actions have now rendered this implausible.

Adams must resign his seat as Portland’s mayor.

Don’t leave this post without seeing the Oregonian’s video below.
Pix of Sam and Breedlove from Willamette Week at the opening of the Nines Hotel.

I asked Mark Zussman, the editor of Willamette Week, the other day if he would call on Sam to resign. The man whose paper broke the story told of how this was a survivable episode and said, ‘No.’ It’s hard to throw your friends under the bus.
Today, however, both the Portland Tribune here and Zero here do.
Nut ‘graf from Trib:

It is disappointing in the extreme to come to the conclusion that Adams must go. When measured by his experience, intelligence, enthusiasm and political skill, Adams is almost certainly the most qualified person in Portland to be mayor — which is why we endorsed him in the 2008 election. But he falls short when it comes to honesty — a trait that cannot ever be dismissed — and by displaying woefully poor judgment in choosing to have an affair with a very young man.

According to the Zero, Adams also lied about actually mentoring the kid he’s accused of having sex with. They met when Beau Breedlove (er, Big Love, see Randy’s story below) was 17, had several meetings, and talked about having a relationship. Three weeks or so after he turned 18 (Sam took a date to the birthday party), they had sex. Now he’s told the Zero that the mentoring story was a sham. Here’s the Zero’s video here. Oh, and it was just casual sex. Check it out at 4:05

Sam, when I asked the question about under what circumstances you’d consider resigning and you said when you were no longer effective, did it include no confidence votes from the cop shop and two major newspapers?
We’ve got a poll going here.

Best line from a 5th Listener:

Portland is now the only city in Oregon where an eighteen year old can legally have a Sam Adams.
